I too suspected there was a gay undercurrent to Kitsch's conversation with his friend. I'm very confused as to what's going on there. The mayor's wife and son were pretty cartoonish. The L.A. setting is one of the things that just isn't working for me, no matter how many noir-ish overhead freeway shots they give us. ETA: The AV Club is sure that Kitsch's character is gay.

I think this season really shows how strong the writing was for the first one (even with all its foibles and things "borrowed" from other sources etc.). And how much the actors carried it. They had magical chemistry IMO and managed to find nuance where perhaps it wasn't always there in the writing. MM also managed to handle the often out there ramblings he had to deliver and turn it into a strength...the new actors are good for the most part, but they get eaten up by the pretentiousness of some of the dialogue.

MCConaughey was the perfect choice to deliver those out there ramblings. It wasn't a stretch to believe he actually would say that crazy stuff! I think I would respect this show more if they had actually killed Colin Farrell. They took the standard television way out.

This is what bothers me about Hannibal. We all have a general idea of what it takes to kill someone, and when a character magically survives what should be mortal wounds it makes it hard to take anything seriously. That kind of bullshit should be left to soap operas. I was going to watch the second episode but never got around to it, and you guys haven't made me sorry I didn't.

I can't take it anymore. I'm giving it one more episode before I pack it in.

I was thinking about last night's episode and realized if someone said, "I missed it--what happened?" I really couldn't tell them.
I'm in it til the end. I may be hate watching it, though.

I'm in it until the end because eight episodes makes it easy to commit. But it is nowhere near as good as last season. I think it's chaotic and incoherent. And I'm not that engaged. Who murdered the city planner? I don't really care. And the pretentious dialogue is really making me roll my eyes. But I do like Rachel McAdams.

I guess it has to be the gay undercurrent with his character but if it is - and that is likely - wouldn't his reaction to his "war buddy" be seen as way above just him being his secret lover? I mean the guy goes out to the races with him and then after one mention of "Black Mountain" and dude is punching and reaching for his gun. (was that what he was doing in that scene?) Clearly he has major issues with whatever it is but I just get tired of everytime a girl looks at him he just gets that look on his face like he shit his pants or something. Ok we get it he doesn't feel comfortable around girls but damn they could have written his scenes better than they have.
On a lighter note I mentioned on another board how much the Mayor and his family reminds me of Scarface. Think about it, he is crazier than shit and always with a highball glass in his hand. That scene when Ani was snooping upstairs in his house I half expected the mayor to be up there snorting his way through a mountain of cocaine. "Say hello to my leeeetle friend!" As much of a shitbag as Collin Farrell is in this show - and he is pretty bad - I find myself still pulling for him the most. The guy has heart. I am also starting to think that Frank (Vince Vaughn) is going to discover the killer first - looking for his $5 million - and probably pay for it with his life.

I don't know why, maybe because it's so ridiculous, but I really enjoy the running joke of everyone bagging on Ani's e-cigarette. Maybe I should pay better attention. Half the time when the characters talk, I don't even know who they're talking about. So many offshoots. I DID catch when Taylor's (Lord love a duck, I can't remember his name in the show) friend at the club said he could get it up for women if he had pills. That's what Taylor had to do in the first (?) episode with his girlfriend, didn't he? Ooh, sjankis630. Good guess about VV. I'm with you on that one.

I didn't catch half of what AV is talking about. Maybe I'll rewatch sometime in the future. Partly it's because I can't remember anyone's names, so it takes a while to connect dots.
