Gwah! Who is this guy??!! I honestly knew NOTHING about him until this lawsuit. If, even a small fraction of what is being said about him is true, then he needs to be in jail. NOT making movies. I've been dealing quite a bit with the Hollywood crowd as of late and I'm always truly amazed at the seedy underbelly of it all. I. just. can't! Grown men with 18/20-something girls and no man bats an eye. Grown men swapping out girls like a used car. It's horrifying to watch and so misogynistic and it's just accepted... like it's normal. I guess, it's normal there. The whole thing makes my skin crawl. Personally, the worse thing for me, because somehow I must project on some deeper feminine level, the women in Hollywood... Successful amazing women that just accept it all with the ol' standby 'boys will be boys' attitude. My only conclusion is they must need that ability to compartmentalize to just survive in that industry. They are so deeply marginalized. I'm done. I just can't. /rant over This guy should be in jail. There should be no grey area. Blech!

Well, this is depressing. The Usual Suspects is one of my favorite movies. I just watched it the other night.

I'm link challenged but if you go to reddit /r/movies there's a thread devoted to this and the stories people are telling are interesting.

My gay male friends told me long ago Singer was bad news.... with many of them saying they personally knew someone who got hit on/groped by Singer, and the guy was a massive perv. I have not heard one nice thing about him.

The first time I heard these rumors about Singer was so long ago that I can't even remember the details. I think it was way back in the 90s after he did Apt Pupil. And I remember Kevin Spacey also being involved in the rumors, though at some point he had a falling out with Singer.

Yeah, it's pretty common knowledge that Bryan Singer likes to surround himself with very young/young-looking boys. He has staff who troll the bars in West Hollywood looking for recruits. Although there's usually a payout of some sort (join his boy-entourage, get a foot in the door in Hollywood), so I just assumed they were all consensual.

Ew. From this pic linked to from that Reddit thread, it looks like Sir Ian was probably in on the action.

I knew some of the rumors about Singer being sketchy, and recall feeling some schadenfreude I couldn't quite place my finger on when movies like Valkyrie flopped. Even so, I did not know he was an out and out rapist. Fuck. I'm link challenged but if you go to reddit /r/movies there's a thread devoted to this and the stories people are telling are interesting. Here it is. If the rumor about Alan Cumming calling Singer out is true, my respect just went through the stratosphere.

There was a rumor years ago that one of the actors in the first X-Men got his role after a hot tub session with him. I believe it was Pyro. Huh, I just looked it up--I didn't know that the first movie's Pyro (Alex Burton) only has that one role to his name on IMDB, and a different actor (Aaron Stanford) played Pyro in the later movies. There are superheroes that forever have given off a faint whiff of the gay, particularly middle aged, single men who adopt young wards, and then there is Superman as red-blooded, American male and heterosexual as you can get (in blue spandex and calf-high red boots). So when openly gay Superman remake director Bryan Singer, who has a not-so-secret penchant for handsome, younger boys, hired square-jawed nobody Brandon Routh to play his Man of Steel, many a Kryptopurist eyebrow was raised and the rumors starting flying: could a Hollywood director have gasp! actually hired someone he wanted to bone? It simply isn't done! Today, Radar fans the fanboy flamer flames: Of course, if Singer cast an object of his desire in a role, it wouldn t be the first time. According to Alex Burton, the unknown who played the Human Torch Pyro in Singer s first X-Men blockbuster, he was given the part after a hot-tub session with the director at a Hollywood party. Bryan created that role especially for me, says Burton, who went on to act in exactly zero films post-X-Men. We must say, that must have been some jacuzzi line reading for the director to go so far as to pluck a character out of another comic book entirely.* The official word on Routh's casting however, from an Entertainment Weekly article from earlier this year, places their first meeting at a very public and unsudsy Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. "He stood up and up, and up, and up," the director explained. "I said, 'Okay...'" Clearly, it was not couch-casting antics but Routh's freakish natural ability to fly that won him the role.

So is Pedro Almodovar the only semi-normal gay directior in Hollywood?
