Linda Thompson's essay was really good. I highly recommend it for anyone who's interested.
If she wrote an autobiography, I'd totally read it. She was Elvis' girlfriend (the song Suspicious Minds is supposedly about their relationship), a Hee Haw honey, appeared on many Aaron Spelling shows in the 70s, married to Bruce Jenner, and is the mother of Brody Jenner from The Hills. All of that taken together is somehow absurdly amusing to me.

Yeah, I wish him well and am glad that we live in a world where he is able to do this, but at the same time I also think he's quite a shitty human being. He ignored his older children for years and is turning a blind eye to Kylie's shenanigans.

Yep. I read that on wiki and she also collaborated on songs with The Backstreet Boys, Kenny Rogers, and Celine Dion. She's had an interesting life.

Wow, I had pretty much convinced myself that this was a bait and switch. Good for him for being able to do this. Also, for his sake I'm glad he's okay with male pronouns since I can't believe the media would be all that sensitive to it if he felt differently. I only learned that he was an athlete fairly recently and I'm kind of amazed at the life he's had. Yes! He was a huge deal as an athlete, and was very famous way before the Kardashians were. In the US, he was a huge deal in the '70s. As a child of the '80s, I never experienced it directly, but apparently he was a massive sex symbol. He was one of the OJ Wheaties box athletes. And I agree. I am wincing at her concerned/strained faces and the Qs. Sometimes reporters have to play dumb in order to get the best answers out of their subjects and present the best story. At least he is answering things quite well. He's well spoken. He was a BIG deal in the 70's. Remember, when he won the gold medal, it was 1976, the year of the bicentennial. He was an American hero, on the Wheaties Box and everything. I think Diane Sawyer was incorrect when she said he was the first athlete to do major advertisements; Joe Namath and Mark Spitz did it before him.

I hate that I know this, but Kim also stated on an episode of KUWTKs that Robert Kardashian Sr dated Priscilla Presley before marrying Kris. Hollywood's a small world.

I teared up a few times. The thing that surprised me the most was when he said he started the transition in the 1980's. I remember he started to look different but I just thought he had some bad PS.He then stopped for a while. It's sad that he had to wait so long to do this but I understand that the times weren't right for that.Good for you Bruce, you've helped more people than you'll ever know. And saved lives. Just don't F it up by joining DWTS in the near future.

On the shitty parenting thing, I wonder how common it is with a trans parent.
On the show Transparent, the dad comes out as transgender late in life and transitions to a woman in his 60s (not unlike Bruce), and a theme running through the show is how often he was checked out from the kids because he was too busy dealing with his own issues and misery, and how that often negatively impacted his kids ( who are all fucked up to one degree or another). The creator of the show has a trans father, so I'm assuming it is heavily based on her own experience.
Not an excuse, but a possible explanation. And it's good that he seems to have reconnected with his older kids and they have forgiven him and support him. He'll always be connected to Kris because of their daughters, but I suspect getting out of the Kardashian vortex can only be good for him.

The most shocking parts of this: 1) Kanye was helpful. It took my mom to inform me today that there are rumors Kanye is bi & has a male bf in Paris 2) The girls were all normal looking at one point 3) He is a conservative Republican. Delicious.
