I can see that.
I also read Cait took a big pay cut to convince the producers to do a second season. It's up in the air whether her motives are famewhoreish or public service.

I don't disagree with McGowan's overall point at all, but I take no issue with anyone pointing out that saying "so you want to be a woman" to a transperson is at the very least a little insensitive. I also think it's worthwhile to acknowledge that there are vast, VAST physical and internet areas where you can criticize Cait all you want without a single person calling you on it. I do understand that if you're hanging out in mostly liberal areas it would seem like people are quick to defend her, but I don't think that's overarchingly true.

Rose McGowan has some words for her too: Then, of course, she had to make another statement saying she's not transphobic: I don't disagree with Rose. (I'm hoping Cait's comment was meant to be a joke, and I hope she realizes how badly it came across and doesn't make it again)

I'm not a full-on Caitlyn Jenner fan but I can't imagine she's at a point where she's going to teach the media that are backstage at an "awards" ceremony about feminism and go beyond the most obvious stereotypical comments. I also think Caitlyn was probably joking. But also, the women she's been around the most in the last 20-odd years have been Kardashians and Beverly Hills types. What else do these women talk about (away from E!'s cameras)? I'm sure there are intelligent, interesting and fierce women in L.A., but Caitlyn ain't hanging out with them.

The remark about what being a woman means (designer clothes, makeup) wasn't a one off, unfortunately. She said and demonstrated that she believes this repeatedly on her show. She is more Kardashian than Jenner at this point. She pressed Jennifer Boylan to get a makeover, which Jennifer allowed, with resignation. As she was being made over she joked about her IQ dropping. I wish she, or women like her, were the stars of Caitlyn's show.

I think Caitlyn has good intentions, but she is a Kardashian through and through. Hair/makeup/fashion are truly important to her.
She also has some rather old-fashioned ideas. For example, I'm pretty sure she's attracted to women, but won't say so because she still has some ingrained homophobia about the term. A recent interview with Jennifer Boylan showed that she shares the same suspicion. She may be trans, but she's got a long way to go in seeing how other people who are trans experience the world.
I think people can criticize her for stuff like that, but she also catches a lot of crap for being rich and white and not struggling the same way other trans people have. I think that is a bit unfair, even though she has advantages. She may not reflect all trans experiences, but I think it is important that she is out there, opening eyes.
All that said, she was the least likable character on her show. The other trans ladies were delightful, so I hope the show continues to involve them.

It's not that she's rich and white, it's that she's rich and white and completely closed minded about the experiences of those who aren't rich and white. Caitlin is very much of the Bootstraps!!! mentality. Until she comes to terms with and embraces how different things are for the vast majority of trans people and starts advocating from there, she's going to have problems and rightfully be called on them.

'The fuck is wrong with this lady?? The literal DEFINITION of willful ignorance. Infuriating! Caitlyn reminds me of my dad when he first went super-conservative: it's really about being a rich person who enjoys the tax breaks the Republicans give them, so they turn a blind eye to everything else because they want to hang onto their money. She is kinda the worst. I am debating whether or not I want to watch her show, because I think she's awful, but I enjoy all the ladies in her crew. ETA: Even though it is really none of my business, I'm still not sure I fully believe where Caitlyn is concerning her sexuality - she dodged the question all last season about whether she wanted to date women or men. Now she's saying she can't see herself dating women anymore. Okay, so...is this because she's truly attracted to men? Or because the ultra-conservative in her believes that because she's now a lady she's supposed to date a man? Last season she said that while she could appreciate the male form, she was not attracted to men. And she seems to have a massive crush on Candis. Soooooo, is she attracted to men but denied it at first because it still felt "gay" since she so recently presented as male, but now she's moving past that? Or is she still attracted to women but does't want to admit it now that she's a lady because that feels too "gay"? Caitlyn, you confound me.

Somewhere in all this, she talked about dating a big man who'd make her feel feminine, and open doors for her. Which is fine, if that's what a person wants. But she seemed to have given dating men (opens doors for me) as much thought as being a woman (makeup, clothes, high heels).
She's just stupid and uneducated.
