I know! All the Scieno-speak made me go cross-eyed. As did the effin' torches and fireworks they had on stage and the million different ways they found to flash "THE WAR IS OVER!!!" on the screen after they got their tax-exempt status. I am absolutely amazed that when Hubbard was on the run, sailing around the Mediterranean Sea searching for buried treasure he had left there in former lives (where he was a prince in all of them. No one is a humble farmer in their previous life), that none of the Sea Org crew said, "This dude is nuts" and took off the next time they were in port. On Jason Beghe, I think he's naturally a bit odd, but I'm sure the clams didn't help. If folks have the time, the interview he referenced is pretty interesting.

I thought it was very entertaining. I had heard most of the stories before, but I liked hearing them from the former high-level executives.
The uniforms made me roll my eyes. At one point I said to TTMR, "All these guys are wearing uniforms influenced by the navy, and they're saluting all over the damn place. I wonder what actual sailors think about that."

I only got to watch about 30 minutes last night but I plan to catch the whole thing this week. My dad was in the USN for 20 years and when I saw them in the uniforms I started fuming! "Who the hell do those assholes think they are! They don't deserve to wear those uniforms! Those ribbons mean nothing!" I read the book so I knew all the really bad stuff about Scientology. But I was surprised I had such a visceral reaction to seeing them, especially Miscavige, in the Sea Org uniforms.
L. Ron Hubbard had disgusting teeth. That's the other thing I noticed. And I read about Miscavige announcing Hubbard's death but seeing it on video was something else. You could tell that Miscavige was giddy with excitement.
I can't wait to see the whole thing.

Hubbard was so gross. I just can't believe so many people were taken in by this man's science fiction fantasies. I kind of understand people's attraction to the self-help part of it. But as Haggis described, once you get to the Scientology creation myth it's like, WTF?! I guess most people are too far down the rabbit hole at that point. Truly a bait and switch.
Does anyone know why Shelly Miscavige wasn't mentioned? Is it still an ongoing investigation?

I did wonder why they left the Shelly Miscavige thing alone. I mean, it's been semi-current events in that it's a big reason Leah Remini left (I still love that she had the giant brass balls to fill out a "I know someone who is being a bad clam!" form on Miscavige). I hope they had to leave it out due to an investigation.
Hubbard did have horrible smoker's teeth. Like, put the cig down long enough to visit the dentist, dude. But I guess he was on the lam and if there was no dentist in the Sea Org, then he was SOL on that front.
I think Wright was right in that Scientology was probably Hubbard's way of trying to heal his own mental illness and he just fell down his own rabbit hole. I just can't believe how many followed him.

Apparently there were 21 stories that the documentary didn't touch (Katie, Leah, Brooke, Shelly, Lisa etc...).
I can't wait to see it. I'll just have to find a way to stream it first!

I'm reading the book Going Clear now, and L. Ron Hubbard was a freak (I'm up to where Wright is talking about the young girls Hubbard used as messengers, including his daughter.) He'd teach them how to do their makeup. The man is crazy, he beat and tortured his second wife--even telling her that he'd murdered their daughter this was after he'd kidnapped the child in a custody fight.
Another great book to read on Scientology is "Blown for Good" by Mark Headley.
I'm watching the Documentary now. Here's the thing, my father, cousins, grandfather, uncle etc. were all in the Navy. My dad was an Academy grad. How dare they pervert the Naval ? Especially with the abuse on their members? To the children in the organization?

The director said that he tried to get an interview with Katie, but had no luck so no future story there.
I would like to see someone tackle the rest. But I'm still getting flashes of their original song/music video, so who knows how much more I can take.

Just starting to watch this... It's not new stuff but I just appreciate that it got out there. I may be repeating myself but a friend of mine in the DGA said they had to switch dates & venues for the screening of this to throw off protesters.
