I hopehopehope they do not want another child enough to go through with it, because there's no doubt in my mind they could find an agency unscrupulous enough to get them a child.

If I was on the waiting list in their state hoping for a healthy newborn, and these two idiots get one ahead of me, I'd be pissed. I'd also make a lot of noise in the media about it because giving JB&M a baby has nothing to do with the best interests of a child needing a home; it's a famewhore move by the agency, as simple as that.
Why would you give a child to middle-aged grandparents who already have 19 children, and who have child abuse issues in their home? None of that makes sense. They're not an infertile couple desperate to be parents, it's not like they can't find homes for healthy infants. The only way it would make sense if they took an older and/or handicapped child, but that requires active parenting, which Michelle won't do.
My opinion is that "we want to adopt" is baby hoarding with a side of look-at-me.

Then again, they may have no intention of ever actually going through with an adoption. just talk for attention.

I would seriously hope that no creditable (or even shady) agency would give a child to these buffoons. Of their biological children, none are employed outside of the home*, they have no education and there is plenty of documentation showing how the parents aren't raising the children.
I think they are just talking, trying to drum up viewers for the dullest show on the planet.
*I know one is supposed to be a part-time constable, but I don't count that as he can't support himself solely on that income.

They'll get a baby if they want one. I've read too many stories of the shady evangelical groups stealing babies in the name of God.

All it takes is a naive and unmarried birth mother who can be convinced that giving up her baby to the Duggars will make up for her "sins". That shouldn't be hard to find in their neck of the woods.
But I've never believed they were serious about adoption. It's a desperate PR move.

Going through with an adoption would also result in people bringing up the child molestation again, just when the media had moved on. They might be genuinely narcissistic and up their own asses enough to think all that unpleasantness has blown over, but I doubt TLC would put themselves in that position.
I think TLC's new approach to the family is cute babies, wedding dresses, soft-focus vaguely inspirational stuff about helping third-world children or whatever, and absolutely nothing else. Run out the clock, in other words.

Here is what Anna told TLC about the state of her marriage:
She couldn't sound more cult-y if she tried. Maybe in between all her praying and worrying about her vows to God and Josh, she should can take a moment to think of her responsibilities as a mother. Their daughter is around the same age now as Josh's youngest molestation victim was. The entire family is under the impression that Josh's true crime was cheating on his wife, and if they build their safeguards around that idea, he will have a harder time accessing adult women the next time he wants to "act out" and could resort to the crimes of opportunity method he used as a teenager as a consequence.

For better or worse is one thing. Self destruction is another. Anna is heading down the path to the latter. She will most likely announce a pregnancy within a few weeks of the doughboy coming home from wherever they have him stashed.

She will most likely announce a pregnancy within a few weeks of the doughboy coming home from wherever they have him stashed. For me, the "worse" part of the vows covers things like unemployment, challenges with kids, losing homes in natural disaster that kind of thing. I could potentially forgive a single affair, but physical/emotional abuse and repeated infidelity are where my line is firmly drawn. She is going to end up at 40 with 10 kids. And those kids will have half-siblings all over the place because he won't change--ever.
