I cannot stand the actress who plays Max, and her whole plotline. That's the one weak link I've seen so far, I have three more episodes left in Season 2. All in all, really well done yet again. I can't wait to see what happens next!

[slightly off topic] The episode I watched last night ended with "Whisper to a Scream" by Icicle Works playing over the credits. I always loved that song and had the album it was off of on vinyl. The album references nirvana a couple of times in the lyrics (including in "Whisper to a Scream") which is how I was first introduced to that concept because I looked it up in the dictionary. I rewatched the video for the song on YouTube and was transported back to my 13-year-old self and then looked up the lead singer of the band to see what he looks like today and...that is always startling.
Lots of stuff is getting churned up with the cultural references in the show. Anyone notice the Reagan/Bush and Mondale/Ferraro campaign signs?
Seeing a present day Paul Reiser is also startling. He is frozen in my mind from the Mad About You era.

I did too, and I wondered if they tried to say anything with who had what on their lawn. Like Dustin's mom (who appears to be a single mom) had a Mondale/Ferraro sign. I think there was a Reagan/Bush sign on Mike's lawn.

Ok, so can we discuss {Spoiler}The death of Bob Newby?
I was positive he was a bad guy for most of the show. Then I realized he was a good guy who genuinely loved Joyce and the boys. Then he got killed! Killed so close to escaping, by the damn demondogs. It was so needlessly cruel when they cut back to him getting eaten!
If your name starts and ends with a "B" you're dead on this show. Just say "fuck it" and make sure your will is in order Overall, I really liked this season. I was genuinely surprised, and happy with it. I did come away wanting the following spin-off; Dustin, Max, Lucas on a road trip. Steve can drive/chaperone. Will can visit on occasion. Mike and El are the dullest characters to me, so they can be off someplace else.

kateln I also thought for sure Bob was an undercover agent or Demogorgon in disguise for most of the show. He was a little too good to be true (if dorky). Esp. when Will suddenly didn't know who he was and jerked his hand away from Bob's. But then he turned out to not only be a good guy- but a freakin' hero! I knew he was a goner though as soon as that was established. That moment where he made it past the monster and was all safe and clear and smiling at his lady love, I was all "Yup. He's dead!" Because that's how horror works. So, bummed for Bob. And for Mews. My cat looks almost exactly like Mews and was sitting on my lap for most of my watch... so this turned out pretty traumatic for both of us! Damn Dart!

I finally made it through S2. Not as compelling as S1, which I marathoned in one weekend. I was meh on Max. Even more meh on her brother, discount Rob Lowe. He was almost entirely pointless, so unless he's going to be some use in a future season I'd rather not see his skeevy ass again. Steve on the other hand, he's totally redeemed himself and he can come back anytime. I am not a fan of Dustin. I guess he's supposed to be some kind of comic relief but I just find him annoying and felt he got too much screen time this season. I can kinda see why he latched onto Dart, he's a bit of an outsider and even in his own group and recent happenings - Mike & Will clearly super tight, Mike has El, Max & Lucas were becoming a thing - probably made him feel a little isolated but he seriously betrayed his group by hiding Dart then lying about it. I wonder if Nancy would have been so kind in the end if she knew Dustin endangered her brother's life and was responsible for a cat's death?

I was also positive {Spoiler}that Goonie Sean Astin was actually a bad guy, while Aliens Paul Reiser really was a good scientist. I was half right. . Not as good a season as S1, but still lots of fun. I guess Chapter 8, which screeched the narrative to a halt, will be more relevant next season? As it was, it was Adventures in Babysitting with really annoying brats. Sirius on 80's does the chart flashback, and we really were listening to all kinds of hits back in those days: country, pop, R&B, disco, New Wave, dance, heavy metal, rock and roll. We didn't segregate like some generation's music /sideyes Today's Top 40 And with MTV and Duran Duran in heavy rotation, I think it's quite possible that would be at a party on Halloween 1984.

Season Three trailerThe year all the kids hit their growth spurt. The relationship between Steve and Dustin is still the best.
