I think she looks lovely in the recent picks. The whole look really works for her.

I wonder how she feels about her career. For just over a year (Summer of '95 to Fall of '96) she was constantly being hyped up. She was the it girl. She was a prodigy. And then it all suddenly vanished. Maybe twice a year you'd see her name for a couple of weeks, in ads for movies that you had no intention of seeing. I think she's still an It Girl as far as critics are concerned; she received great reviews for her roles in Shopgirl and Stage Beauty. Not a big fan of the dress, but her skin & makeup look great. I kind of wish she'd dye her hair red again - she looked so, so pretty as a redhead back in the day.

I think that dress would be quite chic and elegant if it could just get over itself and pick a color already.
Girl in the dress? Eh. I don't have any real strong feelings about her either way. I think she kind of was overhyped in the beginning of her career. Folks were wowed that she could pull off being so mature acting at such a young age. But I always thought she was kind of bland. Crying face works my last nerve.
Shopgirl made me kind of angry (though not her fault). I didn't see why she had to wind up with either bozo who courted her.

I hate that dress and I think Claire is very plain, looks-wise.

But 'It girl' refers to a media sensation. During her year she was regularly being profiled in big magazines, then after Romeo and Juliet she fell of the radar.
Come to think of it, when Romeo and Juliet came out she and DiCaprio were at the same level of fame, bizarre as that sounds.

Yeah, I don't think she's an 'IT' Girl anymore, even among critics. People nowadays seem to look at her with more cynical eyes.
I would have thought she would have had the type of career that Natalie Portman has now, but something just never clicked. Maybe she should have had a Star Wars franchise or something in the works while she was at university in order to keep people interested.

I wonder if she now thinks that all the negative publicity for taking up with Billy Crudup (while Mary Louise Parker was pregnant with his baby) was worth it now that her relationship with Billy is kaput?

I used to think she was awesome when I was a teen. Now? Blah. I just sort of get frustrated watching her because I used to think she had so much promise, but then she just turned into WonderBread or something.
She was ok in Igby Goes Down but I think that was only because she was supposed to suck and be annoying, and she did that well...
I never saw T3, but a bunch of my friends saw it and when the stopped at my place afterwards, they were so upset at the extreme lameness of the movie that they wouldn't even talk about it. Heh. At one point when I mentioned it again years later my friend said that Claire Danes was epically bad in it... but that the movie sucked as well.

I thought Terminator 3 was actually pretty good, and Claire was fine in it. She certainly didn't suck.
And perhaps she's fine with not being an "It" girl, media or otherwise. She's never been one to court the paparazzi like so many of the charming "it" girls out there today.
