Ugh. Samantha Morton is soooo ugly. I thought Mary Queen of Scots was supposed to be attractive.
(Heads off to Fantasy Casting thread...)

{not to mention that Mary, Queen of Scots was about 6' tall, and Samantha is about 5'3", or just generally wee.}
I look forward to another Elizabeth!

I certainly hope they won't go for that bogus meeting of them (which never happened IRL.)

You know who should play Mary Queen of Scots (besides of course Cate)? Bryce Howard Dallas.
Cate? A lotta love for her. She's amazing even in small movies. And I love how she's not a famewhore. I've only seen maybe two pics of her with her kids.

Samantha Morton is not the most attractive lady in the universe, but she is SO talented. I think she could be excellent as Mary Queen of Scots. Samantha has this confidence to her that makes you think she is a worthy object of lust even though she is sort of... not and I think that will help her sell her performance.
In any case, I think that part of the reason I love the first Elizabeth is because of the crazy awesome casting.

I thought Fanny Ardant as Mary of Guise was amazing. Total scene stealer IMO.

ITA. The whole thing was FULL of scene stealers! Fanny Ardant, Vincent Cassel, Christopher Exxleston, Geoffrey Rush, Daniel Craig, Kathy Burke, etc... The miracle is that even with all of the awesome supporting performances, Cate still managed to hold her own and carried that film. I don't know what Shekhar Kapur did, but I almost feel like he is tempting fate by revisiting the Elizabeth story. The first film is so awesome but it feels like it is walking a fine line between being excellent and being dreadful. To do a sequel might be pushing it. Not that I am not super-excited about the possibility.

I have never, ever understood the love that this woman inspires. I think she should be the poster girl for Fugs 'R Us.

Ha, word. There are a few celebs whose huge love fests I don't get, including Cate, Kate Winslet and Ewan McGregor. They seem nice, but out of all of them, I can somewhat see why Kate W. is liked so much. I'm just so meh on Cate (though I need to see Elizabeth, because based on reviews, I'll change my mind), and her looks are below average.
