I think LeAnn Rimes is bitter that she's no longer the belle of the ball, either. What she said about Carrie Underwood applies to her when she was younger: her first hit was huge and she was an overnight sensation. Carrie deserves the awards as much she did.

Please, it's a country music popularity contest. To hear these two start talking about "deserving" an award gets my panties in a bunch. I don't even LIKE Carrie Underwood but that's just silly to talk about how she doesn't deserve an award.

LeAnn removed the message once she got the memo that Faith's saying it was all a joke. Oops!
Back when Carrie was on Idol, there was a debate about her being involved with Anthony Federov. Supposedly, she mouthed "I love you" when he got kicked off the show. They even had shippers (though what star doesn't?). I don't know if anything is going on there, but it's good to see that they are still in touch.

I have a friend who is involved in the country music industry and performed quite a bit but has now settled into songwriting. Anyway, when she was still performing at small venues Leann made some condescending remark about how she remembers back in the day, before she made it big, when she had to perform in these little venues... Really rubbed my friend the wrong way. Topic: Very proud for my fellow Okie, Carrie. Though I don't much care for country music, I can listen to some of Carrie's stuff without getting a headache.

I hate that whole "hasn't paid her dues" crap that people spout when a newbie wins big. What does that mean? I'm sure Carrie Underwood sang in church and at community fairs and whatever for years before doing AI. Then she paid her dues there, by being the subject of an extremely discussed tv show, voted on by the public, judged on everything from her hair to her clothes to her weight to her talent, and won. I guess that's paying dues.
And yeah, LeAnn Rimes won awards when she was only what, 16? When did she pay dues?
Maybe they should limit Vocalist of the Year awards to those who have been in the biz for a minimum of five years, or had at least 3 CDs, or are over 25. Yes, I'm being sarcastic.

For some reason, it seems like the industry snobs want to believe going on AI is easy (when most of them would never make it past the Hollywood rounds). It's not a cake walk- especially to win. A performer is basically undergoes the most intense audition ever thought of every week for months - as mentioned every minute detail is scrutinized.
And if you don't win? An AI "loser" is most likely to struggle just as much to carve out a career - just ask Justin Guarini, Diana Degarmo, Josh Gracin, Latoya London - hell even winner Ruben Studdard hasn't had it easy. It's a total crapshoot.

Leann Rimes apparently wasn't happy about Carrie's win either. Ha, the country music awards are political? Like what?

I hate that whole "hasn't paid her dues" crap that people spout when a newbie wins big. Oh, THANK you! I absolutely hate that! What the hell is that supposed to mean? "You can't have a career, or be visible to the public, until you've sung crappy gigs in the basements of local dive bars for a certain amount of years, to be determined by us, the oh-so-very experienced listening public." Fuck them. Let the girl sing if she's good. If they don't like her, turn off the goddamn radio, but don't sit there and say, "Oh, you can't sing because you haven't worked hard enough for it."

But come on, she was against some women who have helped revive country music and have paved the way for gals like Carrie. For her to beat Sara Evans, Faith Hill and Martina McBride is sort of odd. I think Carrie Underwood is bland, boring and forgettable.

Given Carrie's run during the eligibility period compared to the other nominees, and the number of podiums she's already seen since she came onto the scene, I don't see how her win could be viewed as that much of a shock. Her career is hot right now, so she won a "Singer of the Year"-type award. That's showbiz. When Nashville finds the next big thing, maybe Carrie will survive, maybe not. Hopefully, she'll have a better loser face than Faith Hill. Carrie was more gracious to Pickler than you'd expect at the ACMs, so that's a start, though Kellie isn't much threat to take away the crown as Prom Queen of Country.
