Yeah, she originally kept it all light on her talk show. She was all Broadway musicals, koosh balls and her crush on Tom Cruise (heh). The Selleck interview was the first time she went serious and hit someone hard in an interview and I think a lot of folks didn't like it. She's kinda just let her more angry side out every since, and I think some people wish she had remained the Queen of Nice.
I don't mind Rosie being honest, but I do think she has some issues and I always wince when I see someone with a public platform blaring misinformation (she's a 9/11 truther). But I think she does get treated unfairly because she's a woman who has a loud mouth and isn't a size 0.

The thing with the Selleck interview was that she blindsided him with questions about guns/gun control while he was only on her show to promote a tv show or movie.

To me, the shift in her persona after her talk show was so dramatic that is made her seem disingenuous. She went from super fake/forced extreme nice to someone with a temper who will shoot her mouth off and sometimes say things that are cruel. Just, yikes.

I do understand why she did it, but the swap between queen of nice fluff fakey friendly super heterosexual (Tom Cruise crush) lady to kinda grumpy lesbian with some personal issues going on was pretty severe and honestly impossible to recover from. That said, I think she's happier being herself. At least, I hope so.

Plus, coming out as gay didn't help. I was homeschooling then and a lot of Christian mothers on the homeschool boards loved her & bought their daughters the Rosie doll because it looked like a real woman, not like the slut, Barbie. They were horrified when she came out as gay.

Why do homophobes have the worst gaydar? This is a phenomenon I could never understand.

I think a lot of it has to do with LGBTQ people being invisible to some extent to homophobes. Like, they are so out of touch as to what gay "looks" like that unless someone is vocal about being out they can't "see" it. They just default to straight and don't think about it.
Unless they are one of those obsessive homophobes who super dwell on how they think gay people live and what they think they do. Those people are a whole other bag of ignorance and cray.

I actually think that Rosie could focus more on an acting career and be fairly successful. She's a decent actor, and made some great films in the 90's.
My opinion about Rosie changed forever when she forced Kelly to stop breastfeeding after a month, because Rosie was jealous of the bond Kelly was creating with the baby that Rosie couldn't have. I was going to link to the article(s) on it, but those websites give me the heebie-jeebies.

Yikes! That breast-feeding story is awful.
She shows up on TV and movies from time to time, but the last 10 years she's been playing bit part characters who are basically Rosie O'Donnell. At this point I think that's all she's capable of. The last time she tried something different was Riding the Bus with My Sister, which was one of the most cringe-inducing things ever.

I heard she was excellent on Nip/Tuck but I never saw it.
