I don't really have much of an opinion on Robin Williams. I liked Mork & Mindy I also think he does creepy really really well but could do without the ultra-smaltz of Patch Adams and the like. However, the topic of comedians came up in my psychopathology class and the instructor, who has met Robin Williams, stated that he is definitely bi-polar and that he used to gear up for performances by going off of his meds and letting himself go into the manic phase of the disorder. Of course, the coke use really ramped up the manic episodes. But when he's taking his meds properly, he's a relatively calm, pleasant person. Apparently, there are lots of performers who do this.

I like his dramatic roles and believe it or not there was a period of time when he was so incredibly funny. I'm thinking of the early comedy special on HBO where he wore leather pants, a tropical shirt and sang "Fire" in the voice of Elmer Fudd.
I'll always like him for taking the part in Good Will Hunting even thought it was an Indie movie (as Indie as Miramax got) with unproven screenwriters Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

I love him - have to admit I've never seen Patch Adams or any of the what-was-he-thinking movies, but I appreciate that in addition to being a great comic, he's also a really good actor. I especially like when he plays it straight or quasi-straight.
Matt and Ben did (after Miramax bought the movie) have help from William Goldman, the king of screenwriting. He rewrote it with them. So I don't know if we can credit RW for taking a huge leap on the script, but I also thought he was terrific in the film. One of my favorite roles of his.
So, the gay rumors seem to have fallen by the wayside with this drinking thing. Or has everybody just accepted it and moved on?

I've always liked him but when, as one of the final guests on the very last Johnny Carson Show, he jumped up, pulled out a dollar bill and said, "Look at this! Look at this! President Bush has his wife on a dollar bill!" he got me for good. That night, he was sweating profusely and very manic but he. was. hilarious.

I'm sad to read that RW has stolen other people's standup material. But I still love him. And he seems like a good guy - I know a kid he helped out in the Bay Area (something school related), just out of good naturedness. I hope he recovers.

I don't mind him. I don't pay much attention to him - so when he does his thing, he makes me laugh hard.
He's a fantastic dramatic actor - and I really want to see The Night Listener.
And I love The Birdcage.

This is from today's Daily Dish...
Too funny! I wonder if they read CPMCoG for gossip?

Maybe it's his way of contributing to their careers plagiarizing then paying them hush money.
I hope the accusations aren't true....

I just don't find him funny. At all. I don't like any of his so-called comedies or his stand up. But I think he's great in some of his serious roles, especially in One Hour Photo and Insomnia.
According to imdb he's doing Mrs Doubtfire 2.

Yes I pretty much thought I hated any project that had Robin Williams in it until I saw One Hour Photo. That was some serious acting. He blew me away with his performance. I was floored. Great movie.
