I agree with you all that Jon is a better interviewer -- though I get a little bored with his stopping and starting of questions mid-sentence.
One of my favorite Colbert interviews is the one he did last year with Jack White. It was a three-parter and every bit had me in tears, especially when they tried to out-Catholic each other. But this wasn't a studio interview - it was taped at Jack's studio/record store.

I cannot thank you enough for the mention of that Neil Gaiman interview!

I just remembered the Jane Fonda interview, she made him soooo uncomfortable with the flirting it was hilarious.

I love the interviews when Stephen and his guest discuss religion. Stephen knows his stuff.
I know he talks to the guests prior to the show, but I've seen some interviews, especially with people not from the U.S., who don't seem to get the joke, and it makes me uncomfortable. Also, in character, he often doesn't let the guest get a word in edgewise, which is unfortunate when the guest has something interesting to say.
The two-part interview with Maurice Sendak was wonderful, but that was because Sendak is a quick-witted and crotchety old fart who's not afraid to speak his mind.

The look on Maurice Sendak's face when Stephen showed how he cut out the naughty bits from that one book that has boys' penises and bums and collected them in a bag and then he put his finger through where the holes in the books were nearly made me hurt myself I laughed so hard.
Hope all is well in Colbert-land.

NY Post is saying that it's his momma. That's too bad if true. They also mentioned that he was in South Carolina last week during the show's hiatus, so maybe he was down there to see her and she took a turn for the worse after he went back to NYC to do the show.

Colbert did a public access show - Only in Monroe - while he has some off time. it includes an interview with Eminem, a.k.a. “a local Michigander who is making a name for himself in the competitive world of music.” I kind of love Eminem for doing this too. Glad Colbert keeps putting stuff out there to get us ready for the Late Show.

Eminem is a really good straight man. He also did a good job of it in The Interview.

I watched that yesterday--Eminen was a really good sport! The way Stephen got him to wave to the audience throughout the entire duration of the credits rolling (and they were rolling slow) was really funny. I flove Stephen.
