This movie has been my go to movie when I am feeling down in the dumps and need a quick pick me up. I thought Streisand was hilarious for a change and the supporting cast is great as well. This is a good example of how to do a screwball comedy properly. To those new directors who haven't seen it yet ? No toilet humor, and the actors don't mug for the camera and try to be cute, they play their parts straight and let the humor of the scene come out. It works much better that way. Of course the chase scene near the end never fails to crack me up and San Francisco is such a great city to film in so that works as well. I have probably seen this about 8 times and each time I remember something that I had forgotten before. Bogdonavich does a decent job on the directors commentary, but skip Ms. Streisand's commentary, as she was not into it. Definitely worth a rental on one of those rainy Sundays when you or your family has about 90mins to kill.

For Pete's Sake was good too, but not as good as What's up Doc. Babs was in that one too.

This was one of my favorites growing up and you are right, no one knows how to do screwball comedy anymore.

A big favorite in our household. Madeline Kahn rules in this one -- I mean, absolutely rules!
And, despite all the parallels to Bringing Up Baby (and although Kate Hepburn may rise from the grave and smack me for saying this), I actually think that What's Up, Doc? is much funnier than BUB.

Loved this movie. When I watch this, I can completely understand how Streisand got so famous. She's just adorable in it (now, not so much).

I had a crush on Austin Pendleton in that movie (shut up!) and enjoy seeing him in things every once in a while even now. He was in a West Wing a while ago. Madeline Kahn and Kenneth Mars were in Young Frankenstein two years later.

I loved the hip, happening party scene, oh, the pretentiousness! And the sick judge was great. When everone in a huge cast like that is spot on, just makes for great film!
Speaking as a straight broad, Barbara is totally hot in this and extremely doable!!

Oh Good God--keep it quiet before TPTB decide THIS also needs to be remade. Can't we let this narrow enclave of great old movies remain sacred? I have been progressively seeing less and less first run movies. If we let on we liked this they may remake it and then the movie apocalypse will be complete. And I will never give these people my money again.
I loved this flick! I am just afraid that every old movie we like is being analysed for re-release. Why not release the original? I have yet to see a remake better than the first. You movie people suck.

Don't even think it, Rox - at least, not without wearing your tinhat to deflect the mind rays. If they announce next week that they're remaking it with Renee Zellweger in Babs' part, I'll know who to blame. ;D
