I was wondering if Connery had been approached to play Kincade, but I'm kind of glad it was anyone else. I also liked the broken, struggling Bond montage.
I think I'm going to see it again.

I just saw Skyfall and wondered that too, chonies. I thought of several Scottish actors who might've been more appropriate than the English Finney.
I thought the opening chase sequence was fantastic. The action scenes were well designed and choreographed and the stunt work was fabulous. All the leads did well, esp Dench and Bardem.
When Bond said of the suitcase full of money, "Put it all on red." was that a reference to an earlier movie? I was thinking possibly On Her Majesty's Secret Service?
Also there was some admirable menswear tailoring.

Went with a friend of mine to see Skyfall this weekend. Great camera work, visually stunning, loved the more serious tone. I think my heart nearly exploded having Daniel Craig AND Ralph Finnes under one cinematic umbrella. Ooof. I thought it was definitely one of the best of the entire Bond series. Right up there with Goldfinger & OHMSS.
Hated Bardem's blond hair, though. At least it wasn't as distracting as his craptastic 'do in No Country For Old Men.

Just as an aside, I read this on Wikipedia yesterday: Strange and unsettling? Check! I also thought the blond was a good choice for the same purposes. And yes, excellent tailoring.

Opening sequence.[/color] Slight spoiler at the beginning, but nothing that wasn't already spoiled from the trailers. It's pretty awesome. Dad spoiled the ending for me, so I'm a bit bummed, but I'll still be checking it out this weekend.

I've seen almost every Bond film, but after a while they all kind of blur together. Is this the first film where they mentioned his parents and his young orphanhood? It was something I already knew, but I still gasped when the story took a turn towards it.

I think so. I was shocked when I found out about it. Usually it's so shrouded in mystery.

I think Vesper may have mentioned it briefly when she and Bond were first sizing each other up in Casino Royale.

Another thing about mentioning *Bond's family and showing his parents' headstones is that it deals a blow to the "James Bond is a code name" theory (to explain why Bond's appearance changes and he never ages) as his parents also had the Bond surname. Of course there are other recurring characters in the series played by different actors (such as Leiter or Blofeld) and it was always highly unlikely that agents and villains are all using code names and their paths just so happen to constantly intersect over several years.*

I never quite <understood the code name theory, other than something for the audience to maintain continuity. It sort of made sense, a little, but at the same time, it's looking for sense in a movie about spies and underwater cars and improbable escapes and lots and lots of sex. The code name is kind of interesting, but I think it's just a discussion point, and the end result doesn't really matter either way. Am I wrong?>
