I say again: Orlando Bloom is getting shafted in this franchise. He started on equal footing with the first and has been shunted ever since. (And no, I'm not an Orly fan. Just noticing stuff...)

I agree. And Frankly, a little Jack Sparrow goes a long way before it gets tired and annoying. Bloom had some time to shine in the last one, the scenes with his father were good.
I remember a wile back some totally unfounded rumours that if they continue on with a four, five, and six, that they will just kill Bloom off because the actors are too much money.

He (or rather, his character) only started on equal footing because Johnny Depp wasn't cast as Jack Sparrow in the script. Jack was supposed to be a supporting character to the lovestory of Will and Elizabeth. Except, of course, they cast Johnny Depp and he promptly stole the entire movie.
Will is still playing straightman to Jack, and that can't be any fun for Orlando. For instance, PotC2: >> "Orlando, in this movie you try to save Elizabeth, but Jack tricks you into sacrificing your soul for his, and then he kisses your girl. She does get him killed, but everyone misses him so they decide to save him."<<
Even Elizabeth got to be more piratey than Will. Hell, Norrington, too. And Barbossa is back, so I'd imagine Orlando is getting even less to do in the third. I would not blame him if Bloom doesn't want to play the unloved straightman beyond the trilogy. That said, Jack is a thousand times more interesting than Will (hotter too), and more interesting that Will and Elizabeth, so I have no problems with the shaft that Orlando is getting.

Orlando, while very pretty, just isn't a good enough actor to keep up with Johnny, Keira, Jack, and Geoffrey. And now the next movie will have Chow Yun-Fat (aka The Coolest Man Alive) so there's another strike against him.

That said, Jack is a thousand times more interesting than Will (hotter too), and more interesting that Will and Elizabeth, I agree entirely. Which is sort of what I was trying to say in my post above: Will is less complex and therefore less interesting than even Elizabeth. Orlando does well with what he is given but it seems Keira is getting better lines and more to do than Orly. God, I sound like an Orly apologist but I'm actually a hooooooge Johnny Depp fan. And I used to like Keira Knightley but she's sorta getting on my nerves lately... atreides, eta so I could respond to your post: HELL YEAH on Chow Yun Fat comment. I can't wait to see him in this flick!

The trailer does look terrific, but I'm not nearly as excited for the third installment as I was prior to the second. Maybe my expectations were too high for Dead Man's Chest.

While I am looking forward to seeing Jack Sparrow again, I have to say it's Chow Yun Fat that really ups the coolness of the third installment.

I'm feeling the same thing, viridian. I was so disappointed by the second installment, that I'm having trouble getting excited about the last movie (even though the trailer looked really cool). But I am happy that Barbosa is back since he was my favourite character in the first movie.

Same here, Mierin - my anticipation for the third is mainly due to having Barbossa back, and wondering how the film is going to explain his return. Otherwise? Eh, I'll see it but I'm not really hyped up.

viridian - my favourite part of PotC 2 was the last minute when Barbosa was revealed. 'Finally!' I think to myself 'The movie is getting exciting!' Then the movie ends. So disappointing!
