Man, I wish I could feel strongly about this one way or the other, simply because it would be more amusing to watch. Alas, I just don't care about either Gosling or Mendes to give a crap.
I did like him a lot in "Lars and the Real Girl," though. That's all I've got.

I'll have to google it but I feel like I remember Eva being fairly politically active, perhaps with Obama's campaign. I think you may be thinking of Rosario Dawson who is one smart cookie, and very politically active. In which case, the Accidental Goodwill Effect strikes again!

Have we confirmed that Eva Mendes actually exists?

For some reason, I'm thinking it is Eva Longoria. She's the politically active one, isn't she?

One semester I asked my students to think of a movie that they thought depicted a typical or ideal marriage. 90% of the class chose the Notebook, and since I hadn't seen it, I asked someone to explain it. Uh...and then the other day this came along: I watched the Notebook and I'm here to ruin it for you, by Lindy West. Ok, that's is hilarious! I probably shouldn't read it at work though as it's hard to disguise my laughing out loud as being work related. Topic: I don't care about the pregnancy all that much. I didn't even know they were dating.

I'm surprised the media hasn't made any "Gosling on the way" type of jokes yet.

I've only seen Gosling in Crazy, Stupid, Love and part of The Believer, and he was excellent in both, leading me to believe that he might well be a good actor. Only seen Mendes in Ghost Rider (bad-movie night, people! bad movie night!) and Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and she was abysmally bad.
A Lainey blind from January 2013 discussed an actor who wanted a baby with an actress who did not but had been talked into doing it, with resultant visits to fertility specialists and the like. Lainey revealed them as Gosling and Mendes. I don't like Eva Mendes, but it breaks my heart, for her and for the child, to think that she'd give in if she really doesn't want children.

The only thing I know about her personally is that she has been to rehab for addiction issues, and I think they were with alcohol. I don't think she is politically active in any way, other than posing naked once for PETA, which I generally don't count. (Lot's of celebs pose nude for PETA but very few are actually animal-rights activists.)

I think Ryan is a very good actor and think he's hot as Noah and during the famous MTV kiss. He dresses stylishly too, so I find him attractive though I get why others would not.
Eva is beautiful, and I adore her clothing line at New York and Company. The line is flirty yet refined; I own several pieces. Seriously good stuff - well done, Mendes! Best wishes to them and the impending bambino.
