It's due out in a few months, but the trailer is showing now on the net and with some movies, and it looks fantastic!

It's based on the TV series Firefly that got canned after twelve episodes. Paramount thought it had potential and gave Joss Whedon $60M to make the movie. Either Paramount execs are as dumb as a box of hair or the greatest, and bravest, suits around. Judging by the trailer it just might be the second option.

For those who haven't heard of it it's set five hundred years in the future and in space. The evil empire is chasing after our rebelious hero's and... sound familiar ? Well, it isn't. There's no aliens for one, and at the fronteer of human space exploration it's like the wild west all over. Horses and Colt 45's mix with spaceships and floating cities. Sounds weird but it works, and makes kinda sense.

If the series is anything to go by it will have a great story and great dialogue, created by the guy behind Buffy and Angel and for those who wonder about his movie experience he co wrote Toy Story, Speed and worked on X-Men and Alien Resurection, though his work was replaced by other writers.

I loved the series and am so looking forward to this. Anyone else?

And reading this it occured to me it reads like I'm being paid my the studio. If anyone agrees then please mail the studio and tell them to pay me. Or send free tickets. Or a poster of Sarah Michelle Gellar. Or Michelle Trachtenberg. (Not a poster of her, actually send me Michelle...)

The showing out in Atlanta (which is the closest city to me) was said to have sold out in FIVE MINUTES. This is going to be sooooo huge.

I am SO obscenely excited for this movie. I loooved Firefly, and the trailer is beyond badass. I *heart* Simon, so I was sad he wasn't in the trailer a lot, but with it focusing so heavily on River, I'm sure he'll show up here and there. ;-)

So, uh, is it September 30th yet?

It was River-centric alright. I am worried people will see the "From the creator of Buffy" bit, see River fighting and think it's Buffy in space. Not that that would be bad...

And if you wanted more Simon then I need more Kaylee and Inara! Both were briefly seen in the background but that's it.

I only saw an episode or two of Firefly, as I held a (possibly) irrational grudge against the show for distracting Joss during Buffy's decent into suckdom. That said, the trailer was pretty cool, even if it was

River-centric

For a second I was like, "Why is Fred from Angel all over this trailer?"

River, or the actress anyway, WAS in Angel. She played a ballerina in Waiting In The Wings.

I saw the trailer (attached to 40 year old Virgin) and thought it looked great. I've never seen "Firefly" and now plan on buying the dvd's so that I'll be prepared for the film. I've read that a triology is planned!!??

I felt the same way. But I think I will see this one when it comes out. Time truly does heal all wounds.

One question: Does anyone else always think Now!! after reading the title of the film?

Oh, Tamara, you just warmed the cockles of my cold, dead heart. It's so awesome that you're going to get the DVDs just based on the trailer. You wont be disappointed, it's a fabulous show!

And I can now safely post that it's a fantastic movie! And no, I am STILL not getting paid by the studio... They announced four screenings in the UK to be held Wednesday 24th and when they finaly went on sale I had to be away from my computer. I asked a friend at work to keep trying the website and when I got back he said "Oh yeah, I got that ticket"

To everyone who's seen the TV show the movie gets going very quickly with some new stuff about the characters, bringing new viewers up to speed without going over any old ground. It looks like a $150M movie, not $50M, the effects, the whole look of the thing, all fantastic.

There is lot's of great dialogue, lot's of laugh out loud moments, lot's of action, great story and lot's of other stuff. Avoid spoilers. It's far better not knowing what's going to happen.
