I just saw this at a screening. It was pretty good. They never really took themselves that seriously so that was good. There were some obvious plot holes such as when there was a character that kinda came in from out of the blue. I'm guessing that they had some other scenes and cut them out due to time. Anyways, the part where the main character comes back to life and we see the film as though it was really a video game was pretty clever. All in all, it was a decent film for what it was. It should do well.

As an old computer geek who worked in a place where the night computer guys networked Doom for impromptu deathmatches, and living with roomates who were obsessed with it, I'll be going to see the flick with my hubby (one of aforementioned roomies).
So, is it anything like the game?

I don't play computer games, so I don't know what to compare it to. But, for movie based off of a computer game, it was fine. I thought it was a lot better than Resident Evil, that's for sure.

I saw the Rock pimping Doom on WWE Raw, it looked reasonable, for a shoot 'em up movie. I might wait for the DVd and skip to the scenes with Rocky and avoid the rest.

That game is so addictive (is there any place to play it on the internet?) so I'll probably be there this weekend, despite it not being my kind of movie.

I've never played the game, so the trailer kind of confused me. Are there actually parts of the movie where 'you' are carrying around a gun and shooting at stuff? Because that seems to be, no offense, kinda lame.

Yep. I actually liked that part and found it pretty clever. It comes at a really great moment in the film for it. Like I said, it's not a horrible movie, but it's not a great movie. It's a film from a video game, so you can't expect much. It's better than other video game turned films that I've seen though and the audience laughed at all the right places.

That's cool. I assumed it was like, deadly serious, which would have been giggle inducing in a different way.

I saw the Rock talking about it on some morning television show and was amazed at how well-spoken he was. Darn it, I might have to see this movie and start liking him.
