I think we all know this story is anything but new.
After all, even the best romcoms are formulaic. But based on the strong supporting players, and cute scenes from the trailer, this looks like it might be a pleasant little flick if you like romcoms.
The premise may be a bit overstated, especially in present day Southern California. But Sanaa Lathan and Simon Baker look great together and seem to have terrific chemistry.
If it's half as pleasant as Hitch, I'll be a happy camper.
The clothes look good too.

I took my mother to see the sneak preview on Sunday and we were raving at the movie.
Sanaa Latham was great and Simon Baker was mmmmmmmm good.
Won't give away the story but I highly recommend it.

This movie looks really cute. Not super original, but all the players are hot and hopefully spark.

I love the trailer and poster so much. I think this will be a surprise box-office hit.

I'd have never expected a male critic from The Village Voice to like it. But one did.

Simon Baker was on Ellen yesterday. OMG he brings the cute and sexy doesn't he?? I'm going to see this film based on that interview alone.

O.K. The guy that Simon Baker played was so perfect that he was like a white Sidney Portier. The characters occasionally lapsed into speechifying that didn't sound like natural conversation. And the turnaround in behavior of people who were not fans of the couple was too way too fast.
But for the most part, it was a charming, sexy and sweet romcom with more depth than is usually found in this type of movie.
Both Sanaa and Simon deserve to break through to the A-List.

This didn't open in Canada this weekend. What up with that?

It was released in only 1266. Most 'black' films open in less than half the number of theaters as other films.

Unfortunately, the opening day numbers were not impressive. Only 1.9 million.
Methinks the movie is being hurt by Big Momma's House that is drawing away large numbers of it's core audience, black women.
I suspect that When a Stranger Calls, is stealing from Something's potential audience as well because it, like Something, is a date movie.
Too bad too because Focus really promoted this film well.
