The obvious lack of preparation for the performance bothers me more than her reaction to it. Was she even there for the sound check? Someone on Twitter said it was like a group project where Mariah didn't do any of the work, but then had to present it in front of the class. There are pics of her at rehearsal earlier in the day, but it's just her dancers carrying her around stage. I'm actually wondering if they didn't sound check any of the songs, not just Emotions, and only rehearsed the sad excuse of choreography. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, Mariah sources say she didn't have enough time:

I feel really bad for her, but I also feel like no other star on her level is as lazy about their career... which is a travesty considering her talent. Like discoprincess said, she's becoming known for disastrous performances. As bad as I feel for her, I strongly suspect that she is entirely to blame for whatever went wrong last night. Incidentally, the tweet "she" sent out last night was the same thing Adele posted after her unfortunate Grammys performance. I use scare quotes because it has long been rumored Mariah's social feeds are captioned/handled by her manager's teenaged daughter in an attempt to sound young and connect with kids.

I feel the same mixed emotions: totally bad for her because that would suck for ANYbody. But then I lost pretty much all sympathy when I saw her reacting so unprofessionally.

I do not feel any sympathy for her. A true professional would have been prepared and if something had gone wrong, been able to improvise. They didn't book her for this gig the day before. She's a lazy, entitled bitch.

Seriously. I love Mariah, but she's been doing this for over 25 years. She should be able to handle a malfunction like the one last night without it effecting her performance much.

Probably because she was 3 hours late for the rehearsal, I assume.
I'm sure there will be even more excuses to come. She couldn't remember any of her lyrics because of a bad prompter, her voice gave out because they failed to provide her with a humidifier in her room, she was about to pass out from hunger because they didn't give her time to eat dinner, she couldn't see because they failed to turn down the lights in Times Square, she couldn't dance because her fishnets didn't fit properly, and she had a headache because somebody did her weave wrong and it was pinching at her scalp. Also, one of her dancers stepped on her toe.

There's video of Mariah's rehearsal. No sound check at all, and no music playing. Basically, they just worked on choreography. youtu.be/9zpaNtLFRHk

Just for the hell of it I typed in the brattiest brat I could think of in the music industry + technical difficulties and came up with this: LINKIf this jackass can get through it, Mariah can (if she bothered to try).

We used to have live music at a restaurant I worked for. Kind of a jazzy/ standards/ blues thing for old style dancing or just listening, so not a full blown music performance where the music is the focus. I was standing at a table next to the stage one night when the power went out, and those guys (who all had regular day jobs) didn't miss a beat. I was very impressed.

Just posted by a hilarious internet commenting person: Maybe Mariah Carey didn't give the performance that 2016 wanted, but she gave the performance that 2016 deserved.
