Thank you, Auron! I owe you a drink. I read the novel when I was a kid, and all I can remember was the subplot about Sonny's bridesmaid bit on the side who fell in love with her gynaecologist. I am going to watch that scene again soon, At the moment, I'm watching the triology as my zoneing-out-in-bed viewing matter. Probably not the best way to see it, but with completely no distractions I'm getting more from it than I ever have before. I have just finished the pre-first communion Young Vito story. Which is really cool because the first way I ever saw the films was on the Saga on TV when I was about twelve which showed in in chronological order. I think that was what first made me like Robert De Niro. He was so graceful and handsome, like a silent movie star. Al Pacino never looked better, as well.

Saw the original Godfather at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta last night. What a treat! I have all released versions and can practically quote many lines from heart. But to see this once again on the big screen - yeah! As this is the 40th anniversary, I now sadly realize that I am now older than all the characters in the movie! I used to think Marlon Brando was so old, not now! Pacino was just so baby faced back then and he only shouted once in the entire movie. Anyway, loved it!

Pacino was damn good-looking when he made that movie, imo.

The thing that gets me about Sofia Coppola's Mary Corleone is not any question of talent. It is that Coppola was far too young. Mary was already 5 or 6 in Part II ( The Godfather wiki put her DoB at 1953). So in Part III she should be about 26 to 27. Sofia Coppala was 18 during filming and she played Mary like a wide eyed teenager. Really Mary should have been played as older and more savvy; an adult woman who (presumably) would have been living out of her parent's wing for a few years by the time of Part III.

Yeah, Sofia was too young and inexperienced for that role. But, hey she was also the wrong gender on Part One! Nepotism (shaking my fist). Kidding of course. She did knock it out of the park in the baptismal scene!

I don't even like part three that much. There I said it! I won't unsay it... If I'm watching the movies, I usually end up watching 1 & 2, and then skip out somewhere in the first third of part 3.
