I think the other engagement was only rumoured by the tabloids but never confirmed.
It does seem like a whirlwind relationship but she’s made it this far without any failed marriages under her belt so I think that there has to be something different about this guy that makes her think he’s the one.

She's been racking up Oscar nominations and critical acclaim in the years since Dawson's Creek. I wonder what Katie Holmes thinks when she thinks of Michelle?

Katie has about 1/4th of the talent that Michelle Williams has. Michelle also paid a lot of dues with small roles and interesting indies, slowly building a resume and reputation. Katie tried to follow the same path and did some interesting and well regarded films, but then she tried to leap frog to Nicole Kidman level and we see where that got her. Five years of crazy and her career hasn't never really rebounded. Although she seems like a really happy single mom with Suri, so that's something she and MW have in common.

How in the heck did she meet a guy from Anacortes?? I think that is likenthe ends of the earth to East Coasters. And yeah, leaving beautiful Anacortes for NYC is going to be a shocker but perhaps he is well traveled and flexible and loves change and adventure?
That said, I am impulse-averse but I once moved in with a guy I had known for four months. We just happily celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary.
Anyway, I wish them well.

One of the articles said that he was a musician? Maybe he was in Brooklyn at one time or they were set up. One of my friends is in a band (we live in Colorado) and met his wife in Germany. Stranger things, man.

Yeah, this had problematic, at the least, written all over it. Separating after about six months sounds just about on time to realize "oh, shit, we really didn't think this through, did we?"

No surprise here whatsoever. I said this would go the way of Kaley Cuoco's quickie marriage, but that's not quite true because Kaley gave it the old college try for almost two years.
Hopefully the younger daughter won't have any lasting memories of that time she had a new mom for a few months and then suddenly didn't.
Zero sympathy for either of the parents. It was a completely dumbass thing to do, especially with two kids involved.

I'm sorry for the kids, but not terribly surprised they've split.

Better luck with this one? So in eight months she got divorced, involved with this dude and is now pregnant. Alrighty, then. link
