It's good not to announce too many things as "your life's work" but IIRC, this is the first time William has made a declaration like that. A lot of work clearly went into this before the announcement, and it sounds like a good project. To be fair, his mother did expose him to the issue quite young (one of the things for which she does deserve a great deal of credit), and he’s done a lot of work in the area. I think he can say this without looking ridiculous and wish him every bit of luck.

He could turn some of the royal residences into places more than just his family live in to start. Just an idea. Yeah, any wealthy/royal/privileged person making that declaration is going to attract that criticism and for understandable reasons. But that's not going to happen. When certain palaces are no longer royal residences they will become "for the nation" museums etc. Just a fact. Don't know if Amner has any cottages not rented out or being used by family/staff but I guess that would be a security issue. However I do think he is putting the Royal Foundation's money, time and influence where his mouth is and he works closely with Centrepoint and Crisis. Sleeping rough and selling the big issue may have brought in publicity as well as been for charity but at least he knows what it feels like to stand on a street corner and get ignored by many passers by.

He has plans to build affordable housing on land he owns within the Duchy of Cornwall. He mentioned it in an interview about the entire project. He has said that Finland is a model for ending homelessness. I think it's interesting that he and Kate are looking to Scandinavian countries for inspiration for their major projects. She visited Denmark to prepare her early childhood initiative.

The Mirror reports that William couldn't eat, was sick with worry and basically hid in one of the royal homes in the week leading up to the Oprah interview with the Sussex duo. It does make you wonder what other bombshells he may have expected Harry to drop. link

Harry dropped his revelations in his book, and the dog bowl story was the biggest one in regard to William, and that was a story of two brothers fighting.
Knowing that his brother was about to go on TV and trash him, trash the family, and trash the monarchy he's hoping to take over one day would be enough to cause stress.

It does make you wonder what other bombshells he may have expected Harry to drop. linkIf that really was what he was doing then it didn't have to be William worrying about anything that was true. He could have been worried about them taking something and twisting it (which they did), saying something that was 5% "true" and the rest their own paranoia (which they did) or simply making it up out of whole cloth with no way for anyone to prove otherwise (which they did). Plus his grandfather had literally come home from the hospital to die in his own bed which I'm sure contributed to the emotions everyone was going through at the time. I guess in a weird way the fact that trashing the monarchy and Harry's family has been their only/biggest post exit career has actually been helpful to the monarchy. Each time they "reveal" something it has less currency than the time before and people forget specific parts and it just becomes "Sussexes make accusation #5431 because of course they do."

The purpose of the Oprah interview was to damage the monarchy, full stop. The monarchy is William's family, his current and future job, and his children's legacy. It's not surprising at all that he was that upset about it. Not to mention the deep, deep betrayal of having your only sibling turn on you the way Harry did. And also seeing that the ONLY royal Meghan threw under the bus by name was his wife Catherine. Yeah, I bet he was sickened and "incandescent with rage." It was totally justified.

I suppose at the time there was a fear that in general the public would side with the Sussexes because they had a lot of popularity leading up to and in the immediate aftermath of their wedding. It was a big unknown as to how all of this would play out and to what lengths Harry and Meghan would go to potentially try to bring down the whole system. I think the potential twisting of events is what is key. Harry claims he has another book's worth of material that he has supposedly held back on, but how many major revelations could there really be that would be super damaging?
I guess I think of it from my own perspective, where if my sister suddenly said she was going to give an interview about our family I think the worst she could possibly say, truthfully, is that I was mean to her sometimes as a kid. There just would be nothing there to lose sleep over. But if she was going to distort things or make stuff up I guess that would be another potential can of worms, and clearly Harry and Meghan outright lie about a lot of things or hide under a veil of ignorance.
Luckily for the family, even told through his own jaded lens, Harry's recollections haven't been very damaging. The worst for Will was probably his insinuation that Will and Kate egged him on to wear the Nazi costume. The incident with the dog bowl and being shoved to the ground...well, I think a lot of folks believe Harry probably had that coming. All the petty stuff about Kate not being friendly to Meghan was nothing more than sour grapes.

Harry claims he has another book's worth of material that he has supposedly held back on, but how many major revelations could there really be that would be super damaging? Harry's ghost writer, editors and publisher would not have left out anything compelling or juicy from the book. The ghost writer has said that he argued with Harry for months about leaving out a detail that he (the ghost writer) thought was "unnecessary and somewhat inane", but to Harry it was extremely important and he felt it vindicated his wit and intelligence. It was left out anyway. I'm sure Harry's narcissism makes him believe that every single detail that was left out was extremely important. But the material would have been left out because it was redundant, irrelevant or uninteresting. He may have had 15 anecdotes about petty squabbles he had with palace staff that he lost because he wasn't allowed to be an abusive little shithead to employees, but the 10 or so similar anecdotes that were already in the book were enough. That sort of thing.

All the petty stuff about Kate not being friendly to Meghan was nothing more than sour grapes. You make some great points here, but they all rely on a belief that William would assume that Harry would be completely truthful in the interview. We've seen over the past few years that Harry is a manipulator. He will say things that lead people to believe one thing is true, later claiming he did not say what is being interpreted from his remarks. He's also flat out lied about a few things. If the public has learned this by watching him, it's reasonable to believe that William has known it about him for quite some time. So William may not have just lost sleep over what truths Harry could share, but also how he'd twist things around and manipulate to turn people against William.
