I think that it's smart of William to show up for sporting events for the teams he's a patron for when he's able to, but I don't think it should be an automatic thing that happens every single time. If it's on his diary to happen every single time, then it becomes an obligation rather than a gesture of support and has less meaning.

William, Catherine, and Princess Anne appeared on Mike Tindall’s podcast, the Good, the Bad, and the Rugby. I watched the video, which was recorded in Windsor Castle. The three royals are patrons of the Wales, England, and Scottish rugby teams. They talk a lot about the benefits of sports and the atmosphere is very relaxed and familial. Check it out on YouTube.

This exchange resulted in a comment from Anne that is being interpreted as shade on Meghan. One of the hosts, Alex Payne, asks Kate about not favoring one athlete over another when watching live sports. Anne smirks while making the comment. William and Kate agree, but then it seems the full meaning then hits William and he turns to Kate with a forced half-smile, half-grimace that quickly fades. Kate's face is turned away from the camera at that moment, so it's not entirely certain if or when she got the dig. Kate and Meghan sat next to each other at Wimbledon in 2019 and at the time, going together was meant to quiet rumors of bad relations between the two.

Kate has been going to Wimbledon for 20 years, Meghan went at most a handful of times. Only one or two of which she was sitting next to Kate. There are no separate stand in tennis so a person could find themselves cheering wilding for Federer whilst sitting next to Djokovic's Auntie and the person presenting the trophy should at least be seen to remain neutral, which for big Tennis fan Kate is probably not always easy. And then there has been the discussion over Russian tennis plays in the last 18 months. Perhaps it's a dig at Meghan but there are also many other explanations.

I find it hard to believe that Anne would make a petty dig like that. It doesn’t seem like her style.

She's frugal, practical, no-nonsense, gets along with her ex-husband, always keeps the big picture (supporting the monarchy) in mind. I've never seen her show herself to be passive-aggressive or petty.

More recently than Kate went to Wimbledon with Meghan, she and William have gone to multiple sporting events sitting next to George and Charlotte. I think it's entirely possible and perhaps more likely that what Anne meant in that comment was that when they take their kids to events, more energy is put into making sure the kids are comfortable, having fun, and behaving. I doubt that members of the royal family spend as much time thinking about Meghan as would be necessary to make every veiled comment they make about her.

I was thinking more along the lines of there may be someone in the box with you who is supporting a specific player (their parents? Do they ever get invited to the royal box?) so they wouldn't want to show that they're cheering on their competition.

Crowd waiting to see William in NYC. He also mentioned in his Earthshot event today that he went running in Central Park this morning (and managed not to trigger a near-catastrophic car chase!). Someone gave him an I <3 NY t-shirt when he greeted the crowd. People mag article about William's trip.

Okay, he's rather adorable. If he's other than a nice guy in private (Harry's 'necklace' doesn't count because who wouldn't want to slap that guy??) he's really good at hiding it.
Must chap Haz' blue todger that William got Diana's looks.
