. Hah. West Indian slang. Goodie.
Lime = to hang out Fete = a party Blocko = a block party Get High/Stoned = generally refers to alcohol. It was years before I realised Americans meant weed. Just now = soon Jagabat = Whore Kuchempeng = weed/joint (hadn't heard this a while 'til the other day. It is now my favorite word .... rolls off yr tongue very nicely. And I'm not even a weedhead). Ee Salap = Creole word that means wow!/no shit!/cool!/ouch!/damn!/fuck! Drake = crackhead/bum Whine/wine = dancing (the Caribbean way!) [to] Bow = to give head Macco = to poke your nose in other people's business Sweet drink = carbonated drinks / soda / pop Cutex = nail polish (although it is really a brand of nail polish, it refers to ALL brands. Ditto Colgate and Tampax) Biscuit = Crackers Sweet Biscuit = Cookies
In Grenada where I am from we use **** liberally as a swear word. My hubby who is from St Lucia was horrified since he knows it as the worst of the bad words.

Okay, Food.
In the UK we eat Chocolate. "Candy" is a small gooey lemon flavoured bit of hard jelly. We have no idea what a "Candy Bar" is.
Crisps are the fried, wafer thin, slices of potato you get in a foil bag. "Chips" are the hot, mushy, sticks of potato you get with fish. And we get Fries, but only in McDonalds.
We put Jam on bread or toast, not jelly.
Tea is a drink OR what working class people call dinner, the meal served at six oclock.
Spotted Dick, well, let's just not go there...

Since when is 'Merkins short for Americans?!? It's original meaning is a pubic wig. As a native of the USA, I don't want to be called that.
Thongs go on your feet, people. What you wear under your trousers is called butt-floss.
I picked up wicked from that cute sportscaster in ESPN who calls hitting a home-run 'he hit it wicked hard', except in an adorable accent. Bostonian, I think.
People in the Pacific Northwest, is it true that people in Bellingham Washington are called Bellinghamsters?

I think 'Merkins is just a play on how Southerners turn Americans into a two syllable word.

Foil Bag: its a bag that has plastic on the outside and aluminium foil on the inside?? You guys have that? Helps keeps things fresher I think... Thought of this one on the way to work today : Ugly = Minging. Someone ugly = Minger. Someone really ugly = Total Minger. Its a little bit crude but widely used now over here. Also "kicked" can describe someone really ugly aswell. We often call crisps "Tayto" here in Ireland too as it was the first real brand of crisps here and became a by word for them, like "biro" is for pen. Fries are 'chips' here but wouldn't be considered real chips which are like what Mostly Harmless describes. To buy 'fries' in the supermarket you would look for 'thin cut chips' Also: Freeway=Motorway over here...

A lot of stuff in Ireland is referred to by the original brand name: everyone calls vacumn cleaners "Hoovers", pens are Biros, painkillers are usually "Aspirin", PCs are "IBMs", soft drinks are often called "cokes" etc.

Got it. Never realized that the inside was made of tin foil.
