Rumour is that Dior wanted to get rid of Galliano for a while anyway and that the second video of him spouting anti-semitic rhetoric was at least a year old. So the fact that he actually got arrested seemed to be perfect timing for Dior to fire him.
All in all very questionable behaviour by all. Galliano lives in the Jewish quarter of Paris, so what the hell was he thinking? Well, clearly he doesn't. And the fact that Dior may or may not have known about his ways for a bit longer? Does not put them in a good light either.

I'm interested in seeing how the fashion world will deal with the Galliano mess. Fashion journalism is mind-bogglingly sycophantic (it makes Access Hollywood look like hard journalism in comparison) and pretty much everything seems to be tolerated (looking at you, Naomi Campbell). He already has defenders. According to Patricia Field his remarks are farce! It is no different than Mel Brooks in The Producers. And if Patricia Field says he is not racist than he is not racist. Because she has a stepfather who is Jewish. Whatever clownface. Oh and according to Italian Vogue he was clearly provoked and filmed while inebriated. And of course the woman who taped him just wants money.

Yeah, it was clear he was drunk as a skunk, and clearly he never would have spewed such things if he weren't drunk and provoked. Ugh. And Patricia Field is a complete moron. To compare Mel Brook's Springtime for Hitler with Galliano's comments?

I saw Diane Von Furstenberg on Good Morning America yesterday and she said basically the samy thing, that he obviously was provoked. She qualified her comments by saying that she condemns what he said, and said her parents survived the concentration camps, but the John she knew was "kind and sensitive." Okay, then.

Even if you are drunk and you are being provoked, why would those ugly statements even pop into your mind, let alone out of your mouth?
I know the fashion community has to protect its own, but this is ridiculous.

That's kind of unbelievable. Galliano knows that Hitler wanted to gas all the gays too right? Moron.

Gaultier has to chime in, too: Of course it's the other person's fault for poor Galliano saying those terrible things. These fashion people really are atrocious.

Running a little late here, but I saw this pic of Juliette Lewis and stopped dead in my tracks. She's always grossed me out with her skankiness (those @#$%^&* leotards onstage -- blecch!) and Scientologist-ness, but here she looks breathtakingly lovely and tasteful.

And I like that dress more than a lot of the ones I saw worn to the awards/afterparties that night.
