Hi guys! I've been having a hard time getting over here to post because I've been wading through all the press Beck is doing for his new CD and trying to decide how to choose what to post here. He really is shilling now. Mostly praising their "drug program" (Narconon, though he doesn't say that). But he's also dismissing critics as relying on third/fourth-hand reports, and he puts some of the blame for Scientology's negative reputation on the medical and psychiatric industries. He sounds so party-line. So I wasn't sure what to post, but there are two articles that are nearly the same posted here[/color]. They are written by the same guy but appeared two different places with slight differences. Beck has said similar pro-Scientology things in other places. Another celebrity Scieno, Giovanni Ribisi, comes up during the interview: I think he may need some help from the COS in articulating the benefits of Scientology. ETA: Blue color to hyperlink (still learning!)

Hi moontaco! I always enjoyed reading your insights regarding Scientology on the other forum. I'm glad you became a member of MT's forum.

I was intimidated by the number of pages in the Scientology thread at the Forums that Were, so I never read them (boo, Bones!). Anyway, I'm glad I've caught this one in the beginning (even if the conversations have been going on for a long time).
I've actually been working on a short story about a girl who gets sucked into a cult (not the clams, though), so reading the thoughts and beliefs of other cult members will help me flesh out characters. I especially love the links that talk about the general consensus of a cult and the framework inside. I have a feeling that at the basic level, most cults are pretty much the same. They all seem self-sufficient and controlling, and mostly anti-social to those not currently cults members. Although, it seems like quite a few Scieno members talk about the religion and are quick to try and convert others. Are they (for the most part) hateful towards those who oppose the cult and its beliefs?

I am on the fence about Beck. On one hand, he's getting fabulous press for Guero. On the other hand, as a shill for Scientology, I find myself not wanting to listen to his music or take him seriously. It's like my anti-Scientology icky hormones and then Giovanni Ribisi, who besides being a scientologist was on "The Other Sister" (another representation of MR people that just seems like so ridiculous--do people in hollywood know retarded people? Because it doesn't seem like they do? Especially ones that live independently)
Anyway, love to hear about it. God, and when a Scientology celebrity comes out of the closet, I am sore that it is Beck about his scientology. However, someone needs to really ask him why he lied about it in interviews--about never growing up in it, etc. and what the secrecy has been all these years--and then why talk about it now? (they got to him? Mind control? Or was he always mind controlled? But if he always was, wouldn't they try to get him when Odelay came out?)

That is a perfect name for a band. Or beach-side snack shack. The 'Toms' could be mini hotdogs on a stick. Hee!

Were the Masterson brothers born into Scientology (ie both of their parents were members), or did they convert/join when they were young adults?
Also, how many cast members of 'That 70's Show' and 'Malcolm and the Middle' have since joined the CoS?

Danny Masterson and Laura Prepon are the only Scientologists on 70s Show. Prepon was recruited when she started dating Danny's brother Chris.

Heard an interesting Scientology story this week. A friend of mine knew Beck's ex-girlfriend. Apparently, he started to get more and more into the Co$, but she didn't. Then one day, out of the blue, a group of clams arrived at her doorstep, announced to her that she and Beck were breaking up, and proceeded to pack up all his belongings. She cried and protested and said that they had no right, but they just kept on working until his things were packed, and then they left her there. No word from him.
For some reason, that actually creeps me out worse than the Xenu theories. It's just so cruel.

Thanks HotLips. I was always curious how many people the brothers have recruited, and I assumed there would be more.
The Beck thing is so, so weird. Thankfully I don't have any Beck albums, otherwise I'd throw them away on principle.
