What about Tom Waits' politics? *sucks in breath* Please please don't disappoint me, Tom. I heard -- from an only mildly reliable and kind of crazy source -- that Tom is one of them paranoid anti-immigration pro-war conservatives. Typing that made me feel icky.

I like Patti Smith, too. Saw her live twice, in fact. She's just. fucking. phenomenal.
Also, I have a soft spot for Xtina. Don't know why.

Mouse, I do, too. She seems to be smarter than your average popstar. She's sexy, and not in a dumb "Ooooh, I just like wearing sparkly costumes" Britney way. Her sexuality is not prescribed by her managers - it comes from herself, and when you look into her eyes you can see that she's in control of it and knows exactly what she's doing.
She's not perfect - she can be catty, bitchy, and whiny about teenagers rejecting her in high school. But she's human, and imperfections are a part of that. And she also reminds me a lot of myself, so that's why I forgive her all these things.

Xtina also loves Etta James and classic R&B. Gotta give her props for that.

I can't really find (or think of) a better thread than this, but if you're a fan of author Robert Anton Wilson and his works, he's in trouble and needs help.

Tito Puente, legendary Latin jazz musician, because he played so well and was really a doll when a 13-year-old Auroranorth met him (and kissed him on the cheek- he thought it was sweet and hugged me.)

I like Viggo Mortensen. In addition to my favorite celebrity rumor ever (he likes to go downtown and does so on the first date--may or may not be true), he really does seem to love animals. I read that when he was making Hidalgo, he really bonded with the main horse who played Hidalgo and ended up adopting him and now the horse lives a great life. In the last issue of Animal Fair magazine, he wrote a really good article about his dog and how he chose to say "goodbye" after he had to put her to sleep. It wasn't warm and fuzzy, but it was very honest. You could tell he was really grieving. I just automatically like celebrities if they love animals and truly seem at ease with them. I've also heard that on the set of LOTR, he was very respectful and kind to the crew and the stunt people. He's just such a cool, creative guy who seems nice and, I bet, really hot in the sack. ETA: So. Damn. Hot.

I met Tom Waits when I was on a high school field trip to New York City (early '80s). He sat next to me and my friends at a Soho restaurant. I wigged out (I'd seen him on Letterman the week before) and went stoopid fangirly and could not remember his name! "You're famous! Like, you play music or something! I can't remember the name of your song! Or your name! But you're famous! Can I have your autograph?!" He totally could have ignored me (he was there with 2 hipster friends who looked like they wanted me to blow away). But he graciously signed my notebook then chatted with me and my friends about our field trip. He even recommended a couple of galleries to us and told us to order the lasagna. When we left, he waved goodbye! The lasagna was delicious and I still have his autograph.
