I just remembered a "How'd they get away with that?" moment. I was kind of half-watching a Friends re-run. For some reason, Ross had to go over to his lesbian ex-wife's apartment at night. Susan finally staggers out of the bedroom (where presumably her partner is in bed) to answer the door. Ross says, "Did I wake you up?" and in an annoyed voice Susan says, "No, we were up" and then you very distinctly see her pluck something off the tip of her tongue.
I thought, "Wow! For a show like Friends, that's pretty risque! Funny, though..."

I'm not sure that's really fair by the standards of the times. I'm not sure what the law was is the US at the time (1918 onward), but in the UK, where CC lived until his twenties, 16 was the age of consent (outside marriage), so those marriages weren't illegal. The age of consent was actually as low as 10 until 1885, and a girl as young as 12 could marry (and have sex within the marriage) until 1929. So, at the time, I don't think there was much to get away with.

What about the courtship of Elvis and Priscilla Presley? IIRC, she was 14 when they started dating, and he was quite a bit older. And she eventually ended up moving in with him, with her parents' approval. Even though she has said that they didn't have sex until later, it still sounds like a pretty skeevy situation.
I guess after that, you can't really say much to your rebellious daughter when she comes home and tells you that she's marrying Michael Jackson.

I dont believe her story. I think she claims they didnt have sex because it could have hurt Elvis image and in turn stop the money from rolling into her daughter (the bulk of the estate was earned post Elvis death). I think she is a smart business woman and knows how to keep some secrets. Unfortunately what she doesnt know is when to stop with the botox and collagen injections.

How come the media hardly commented on the fact that Kevin Federline left his pregnant fiancee/mother of his already born child to marry Britney?? They have all these glossy photos of pregnant Britney and interviews with him saying how thrilling it all is, but...it's not like he hasn't experienced it before. And by the way, I'm also annoyed about Woody Allen and Roman Polanski--more so than Julia Roberts--they took advantage of minors, technically they should be in jail!

What about Halle Berry's hit-and-run incident? That one got burried pretty quickly huh? Whatever happened to that one?

And by the way, I'm also annoyed about Woody Allen and Roman Polanski--more so than Julia Roberts--they took advantage of minors, technically they should be in jail! There are three things at work in the Spears/Federline/Jackson fiasco: 1. Shar isn't famous. Sure, Shar was on a tv show. But, it was a UPN show. If she had been on something like ER, or a ratings powerhouse, it would have been covered more. 2. Race. The media loves to show black people with kids out of wedlock, on welfare , on drugs, etc. The fact that Shar has four children out of wedlock with two different men allows the media to just ignore her with the excuse,"She's either stupid or just like the rest of them." 3. Hollywood protects it's own. Sure, you could say Brit is a homewrecker. You could say the same of Julia Roberts. JR's current husband, Danny Moder, was married when they met (I can't remember if he had kids). His wife, Vera, tried withholding the divroce. JR went out in public wearing a shirt that read 'Alow Vera', and the media barely blinked an eye. I think the media and BS's people were bitten inthe ass with this one. Sure, Shar complained at first, but with Brit knee deep in white trashiness, Shar now looks golden. Roman Polanski hasn't been extradited from France(?) , arrested, or put on trial. I'm sure that to some in H-wood, that pretty much means he's innocent. I don't like it either, but until he either steps foot on American soil, or commits another crime, he's free. remember the hippie/activist from the 60's who murdered one of his followers, fled the US, and wasn't arrested and brought home to face charges until almost 30 years later? It took the US courts almost 6 months to a year to make the case in foreign courts. Woody Allen; Some have made the argument that Soon-Yi is his adopted daughter, not blood, and that makes it okay. Some have said that the fact that she married him excuses his actions. I think it's disgusting and weird that he not only raised his wife, he now has adpopted children with her. Don't worry Stargirl, one of their kids is girl, and I know it's mean to say this, but it'll probably happen again with thier little girl in about 10-13 years.

There was actually a pretty big outpouring when Brit Brit hooked up with K-Fed. Ditto with Halle Berry. They faded after a few monthes though.

I think Polanski got cut a lot of slack because of what happened to his wife and unborn child. And I think he is a great director. Besides Academy Awards are awarded based on achievement in film, not personal behavior.
In case anyone does not know the wife I refer to is Sharon Tate who was murdered by Charles Manson.
