The abuse of the "freedom of speech" defense is irritating. But I think the deeper problem is that these people WANT workplaces to go back to the "good old days" when white people/dudes/etc. could shoot their mouths off about minorities without having to worry about "PC run amok" (a phrase I wish would be obliterated from the face of the earth).
They don't care that it's what a normal workplace would do, because they're butthurt that normal workplaces aren't catering to their prejudices anymore.

I feel sad today for the LGBT people who awoke to find their feeds full of "friends" who would rather defend the "rights" of some redneck millionaire old coot on TV than them.

As the lone homosexual in my group of friends, I was sort of asked for an official statement and all I could really think of was how hilarious I find it that such a redneck stereotype comes into so much money and promptly finds a way to kill the golden goose.
Then I told them to look at Jimmy Carter for a good example of a Southerner reconciling their religion and their views on gay people: Jesus never said a word about it.

It's nice for another prominent member of the Sochi delegation to be openly gay. Johnny Weir has been pissing me off though. His opinions on the matter have been all over the place, but ever since he got hired to go to Sochi by NBC he's been very anti-protest, and I think all it's about with him is his bread being buttered.
