Now I can officially date Brian Boitano instead of down low, like I would have been doing back in 1988. He's such a cutie!

Johnny Weir, from what I can tell as fan of figure skating, has pretty much always been a mess. He tends to talk shit then ends up with his foot in his mouth. Meanwhile, Brian Boitano has always seemed like a really sweet guy. That generation of figure skaters seem to be a really cute, close-nit group of friends. I thought he was out, but that's cool that he's speaking publicly about it now.
Meanwhile, I hope this Duck Dynasty controversy is a death knell. I know there are die-hard fans, and bigots who feel like they have to support other bigots, but if they're knocked down off of their national pedestal, the rest of us non-haters can begin to forget they existed.

Duck Dynasty is huge, the merchandise is pretty much everywhere, they have books, Chia Pets and a Christmas album (no, really, its sales are about the same as Kelly Clarkson's holiday album, Kelly fans are pretty pissed that she might get outsold by them). I don't see how the empire is going to be ruined by this; if anything it will give them a boost in popularity.

The family just issued a statement. Unless A&E backs down on their stance, the show's future doesn't sound so good: And I'm linking to ONTD rather than the family's official site. Also, what a gross, pathetic non-apology. Whatever, guys. Thanks for pointing out that it's his constitutional right so say bigoted things. No one is contesting that, idiots. It's the hate speech that we're having a problem with. ETA: This is probably going to be a massive headache for A&E. TMZ is now pointing out that this dude has been ranting about gays burning in hell for years, and that A&E was totally aware of it. Link

No one has a constitutional right to a TV show.
And I don't remember where in the Bible it talks about how black people should go back to working in the fields and not complain.
And by the way, though I try to ignore her, Megyn Kelly can fuck off. The Jesus & Santa are white thing was enough for one week. Now she's defending the DD guy, but not directly, she's saying some bullshit about how condemning him "shuts down the conversation" or something like that. Nobody owes it to this guy, or to humanity, to pursue a "conversation" about his fucked up ideology. He should be condemned and then ignored.

The show will probably end up on another network. I thought Paula Deen would be picked up by that country channel. Maybe they can get together to kill and cook ducks.
Palin is just playing her usual game - east coast media elites! Power to the gospel reading racists and homophobes! I'm sure she's got a ghost rider* making notes right now for the inevitable book "she" will now write on the topic.
Yes, I'm happy to live in a country where that sort of speech doesn't get you arrested... and these douches KNOW that. This is a business decision. It's just sad that we have these right wing political hacks who will latch onto anything for attention. But really, there are WAY more people who are horrified by this stuff than not. The loud ones just happen to be on the other side. And this tabloid culture throws them on camera any chance they get.
*Heh, brain freeze, but it's funny. I wish she'd ride a ghost the hell outta here...

"Politically incorrect," as far as I can tell, is just code for "hateful, bigoted shit that I know I shouldn't say or even think as a civilized human being but that I just itch to say publicly." I usually translate it as, "I resent that I can't be a jerk without getting called on it when I say horrible things now, so I'm going to claim I'm oppressed. Not that I'd recognize actual oppression if it walked up and bit me."

Did anyone notice all the people claiming Suck Dynasty guy is oppressed and having his First Amendment rights violated didn't say a thing when Alec Baldwin lost HIS show for anti-gay remarks?
Now, what could be the difference, I wonder?
Edit: I swear I meant to type Duck Dynasty. I'm keeping it though.

I'm amazed at how this of all things has brought the homophobes and racists out of the closet, so to speak. People I have always liked and respected (family and family friends) and who normally stay out of politics, etc. are loudly defending this duck dynasty dick. It's making me pretty sad and disgusted.

Hey, one good thing has come out of it - I'm laughing like crazy at "Suck Dynasty" and "Duck Dynasty Dick". How about just "Dick Dynasty"?
