Oh for Pete's sake. As long as football, basketball, hell just sports guys have been showering together, mathmatically there has to have been a good portion of their numbers who were gay... just closeted. If ya showered with a bunch of guys there's about a one in 10 chance that somewhere along the way a gay guy saw your junk. And guess what, you saw his. And guess what else... the Universe didn't implode, and you didn't catch teh GAY. The locker room's the locker room whether the gay athletes are out or not. If they're that scandalized/shy about it, they can install curtains. You'll all still wind up in a giant man heap fighting over a ball at some point or another-- and if that never changed anything before it's nothing to get your jock straps in a twist over now.
I too hope if/when this fellow comes out he's someone who will dash some sterotypes/misconceptions. But whoever he is, I hope he keeps his chin up and winds up with tons of support from his teammates/ fans.

The other day, Brendan Ayanbadejo from the Baltimore Ravens spoke at a pro-equality rally outside the Supreme Court. He said he talks about his wife and kids all the time and he looks forward to the day his teammate can talk as openly about his husband and children. The way he said it, it sounded like he was talking about a specific person, not a hypothetical one. I wish I could find the clip but I am only finding a couple of interviews he did after that speech...

I am more worried about the fans at football games being disgusting than the NFL or the players themselves. In Green Bay, they still hurl racist slurs against opposing team's players. I can't imagine what is going to be said the first time an openly-gay player takes the field in Green Bay and other backwards places.

I definitely agree. I know FIFA is fiscally punishing teams with fans who act out in racist ways by forcing them to play in empty stadiums, and although I am deeply skeptical about how successful this will be in the long run, I wonder if there's a possibility of applying a similar model to NFL.

It would never happen here in the US unfortunately, but good for FIFA for doing that.

Update on the Michelle Shocked sitch: Weird.Yikes. I don't really think about her when I'm not going through my records or thinking about Anchorage, AK, but it's upsetting to see someone who seems to be in a florid state of mental illness. Of course, it might not be that at all, and I'm just projecting. But I hope she finds peace.

I had no idea Danny Pintauro (Johnathan Bower on Who's the Boss?) was gay. He got engaged to his boyfriend of 1 year.

I had no idea Danny Pintauro (Johnathan Bower on Who's the Boss?) was gay. He got engaged to his boyfriend of 1 year. I've seen lots of comments from people saying they thought he was gay back when Who's the Boss was on! Will multiple NFL stars come out simultaneously to take the pressure off one player? That would make a lot of sense. They should time it for the summer lull when ESPN and all the sports shows are waiting for football to start back up again anyway.
