Remember that actor in that TV show that was really big but it never went anywhere? Sure, they still work to some extent, but they don't have a chance of becoming the big movie star like they were sold as during that popular time? To the Ted Dansons, anybody from Seinfeld, Carusos, and etc. Name your favorites! And explain why exactly they're trying to wash my windshield for change.

I think there are different categories. I can always tell the 'desperate for movie stardom' ones.
Some may have been big tv stars, but they choose to star in smaller films instead of blockbusters and/or do theater.
Calista Flockhart, for instance, never took advantage of her popularity. She starred in maybe one film during Ally McBeal's run. Since the show ended, she devoted most of her time to being a mother. She has a small film being released later this year, but she seems pleased to be doing what she is doing.
Others cashed in and did big, dumb movies, which did not advance their careers.
Truly, most are not sold as being the 'next big movie stars.' The recent exceptions have been George Clooney, Jennifer Aniston, and Jennifer Garner. The media and pr flacks went of of their ways to help them advance.

Thank you, Tofu. So, let's explore Ted Danson here: at one time the highest paid TV actor for Cheers. He decides to leave (as well as the rest of his cast members who according to Roger Rees on the E! THS episode) because of professional boredom as well. He wants to go into movies. Cheers ends and is sets off the NBC Thursday Domiance Parade for the next decade or so. And now.....? Becker. Blink and you freaking missed it, Becker. And his movie career continued its suckitude. And we won't mention the Blackface incident as it didn't kill the career as much as show how little of a career outside of the show he really had. Hell, the biggest profile thing he's done is that Frasier appearance (maybe the Saving Private Ryan thing was bigger but honestly, I haven't seen it and I haven't heard anybody else say anything about his performance). How the mighty have fallen. So, he's washed-up.

I would have never expected Matt LeBlanc to be the one male "Friend" who would stay in the spotlight for that much longer.
David Schwimmer...hilarious on Curb Your Enthusiasm. Isn't he producing now?
And I saw Matthew Perry on a Hanes ad w/ Michael Jordan.
Who else? Corey Feldman keeps trying to hang onto fame w/ the tips of his fingernails, but guess what, Feldie? No one's buying it. I could say the same for Diamond David Lee Roth.

It breaks my heart to add the name Geena Davis to this list. Man, she was in some of my favorite all-time movies -- Thelma & Louise, The Accidental Tourist, A League of Their Own, Beetle Juice... (And I know a lot of people probably have never seen it, but Quick Change, which I also loved.)
Now she's Stuart Little's mom. Sob.

Robert Di Nero owns this thread. Man, he was the biggest thing since sliced bread when he broke out. Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, The Untouchables, Midnight Run, GoodFellas, Cape Fear - all good/great movies. He built himself up into this well sought-after star. Now, he only plays in crap, and phones his performaces in. Frankenstein, The Fan, Great Expectations, Meet the Parents? He's become a paraody of himself, and no one even cares if they see his name on the marquee. The worst contenders - Hide and Seek, The Shark Tale, Godsend, The Score and, last but not least, The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle. I mean, he can't be that hard up for money, can he?

How the mighty have fallen. So, he's washed-up. I don't think Danson is washed-up. He was never a box-office star, even during his popular run on Cheers. It was common sense to end 'Cheers' when it did. The quality of the show and the ratings, probably, were decreasing. Becker did solid numbers for CBS, but it was not a popular water-cooler show. It last for six years on network tv. Two solid tv shows over a period of twenty years is a rarity. Plus, his CBS tv movies do well in the ratings. He's 57 years old. At that age, most people are getting ready tor retire. He has tens of millions of dollars, and I am sure he could work if he desires. There are rumors that DeNiro wasted/gambled away his money.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - the entire cast and most folks* who were part of the TV show Roseanne. It's a damn shame, too, because I love John Goodman; whether he's in a Talking Heads video or helping a llama become king again, he always seems to make it Entertainment! It's sad that he's signed his soul to the Devil, er, I mean, Disney.
However, I can't say I'm too broken up about not seeing the rest of the cast even though I watched a good bit of the series when it was on. But if I never see Tom Arnold, Sandra Bernhard or even Roseanne herself again I won't be all that disappointed. Heck, I'd probably be grateful. Bernhard gives me the creeps! ::shudder::
*The one exception may be the second Becky who is having a respectable career on Scrubs though it's not like she's a huge star or anything yet.

I'm sad that the woman who played Roseanne's mom never found more work. She was hysterical.
I also love John Goodman. His short cameo as the cyclops/Bible salesman in Oh, Brother Where Art Thou? was one of the most memorable in the movie. sadly, I keep waiting for him to die, a la John Candy and Chris Farley.
