A place to talk about the best and worst of celebrity ceremonies (not their marriages or divorces, leave those to the respective threads).
Strangely enough, considering that I'll likely never get married and if I do I'll elope, but I LOVE hearing the details of celebrity weddings, whether hideously tacky or actually classy. (I'm such a girl).
VH1 just did their special on 2005 weddings, and I think my favorite was Joey Fatone. Now, I know nothing about N Sync, but his wedding was very cool. In addition to the regular wedding and reception they had a funfair set up in the backyard, complete with rides and fair food. To see all those people letting loose in their formal wear and really getting into wack-a-mole or whatever, and the groomsmen sliding down a big slide in their tuxes was incredibly cute. I bet every guest at that wedding had a blast.
There were also some very good cakes shown. I forget which B-lister it was, but someone had a giant cake shaped like a sleigh, and it was so realistic people thought it was just a decoration. Favorite cake ever, though? Years ago, some celebrity had a pile of Krispy Creme doughnuts arranged on four tiers, instead of an actual cake. Whichever celebrity that was, I love you forever.
The worst wedding ever is a tie between Cletus and Brandine and Star Jones. I'll give Star Jones the edge, because Cletus and Brandine at least were just trash. Every detail about Star Jones' wedding on VH1 was just ridiculous, especially the train that she made SURE was longer than Princess Di's and that was carried by "a flock of children" down the aisle. Gag.
My favorite celeb wedding ever (a given cause he's my favorite celebrity) is Paul McCartney. Reportedly, it cost $3.6 million (more than Star Jones') but it showed you could actually have a classy and intimate wedding, even with that ridiculous pricetag.
Details: They got hitched in Ireland, at Castle Leslie, renting out the entire estate for two weeks to insure privacy. The actual ceremony was reportedly small and intimate, held in the small stone church on the estate. There were no groomsmen or bridesmaids, just a best man (his brother) and maid of honor (her sister). I like the way they put inidividual touches into their ceremony, but they were things sweet and personal, not "hey, look at us!" changes. For example, instead of the wedding march, she walked down the aisle to a song Paul had specially composed for her. A gospel choir sang hyms and, instead of a traditional wedding, Paul's friend, Liverpool poet Adrian Mitchell, read a poem. She carried a bouquet of pink McCartney roses, but my favorite detail is that, to remember his parents, Paul had pinned to his lapel a sprig from a lavendar bush his father had planted in front of their childhood home, and buttercups, his mother's favorite flower.
I also like their clothes: he wore a very classy morning suit with silk tie, and her wedding gown was ecru lace with a corset-style bodice, very classy. Here's a crappy photo, that's cut off at the bottom, but you get the idea.
