Yep, it's good for you. Except in a jar of Vegemite.

Maxine McKew is leaving the ABC. She will be missed. All right, so I know she says the ABC she's leaving is more vibrant and robust yada yada yada, but this wouldn't have anything to do with the new 'impartiality' regulations that came through last week, would they? McKew wasn't exactly left-wing, but she used her brains and things, which is always a bit of an inconvenience for conservative governments. So, how long 'til Kerry O'Brien 'retires'?

So, how long 'til Kerry O'Brien 'retires'? After Monday's Media Watch you can add Robyn Williams and Norman Swan to the list of possible horrified former employees "retirees".

::reaches into pocket, flashes jar of Marmite::
It's alllll about the Marmite, Yossarian! Ha. You know, once, I bought some Vegemite because I was out of Marmite and in a non-Marmite-y place and although it will do, I prefer Marmite. Vegemite has a strange opaque/cloudy thing going on. Marmite is glossy. And good on toast with butter.
Another foreigner probably going to be spending a few months in Australia next summer...any advice on handling the locals appreciated (will I really have to eat a pork pie floating in pea soup? Really?).
Oh, and Beatle2102? I think you asked me this in another thread but the one-word answer to why I am not currently living on the awesome (i.e. west) side of Canada is: edumacation. I'm at university in Montreal. And it snowed last week.
::cowers, whimpers::
P.S. I seriously want to know why Vegemite was banned. Folic Acid IS good. Wtf?

ABC journo story: I always used to see Quentin Dempster around Surry Hills and not only is he short (like Tom Cruise short) he was also buying scratch lottery tickets. I guess the ABC really doesn't pay that well!

From the NZ Herald: No really, because we're silly here.

::reaches into pocket, flashes jar of Marmite:: It's alllll about the Marmite, Yossarian! I hope you don't expect to get in the country with that attitude! We take our salty, beer production left-overs, yeast spread loyalty very seriously here!

After Monday's Media Watch you can add Robyn Williams and Norman Swan to the list of possible horrified former employees "retirees". They could just fire Monica Attard and the crew and everyone who has worked at or with MediaWatch ever. David Marr isn't employed by the ABC, but if he ever needs a job, he can come work for me. And it snowed last week . . . As a general rule, Aussies are absolutely fabulously accomodating. We have a fair number of Canadians visiting/holidaying, so they blend in fairly well. As long as it's made clear that one's accent is Canadian and not American, it's usually okay. We probably won't make you do anything too horrible, but we do have a tendency to take the piss, especially when foreigners are the subjects. One thing I found when returning to Australia is that Australians really do go out of their way to make another person comfortable. That's not to say we don't have out fair share of assholes, but Aussies are pretty genuine. As for being in Montreal . . . well, I'll accept it. Maybe. Admittedly, I'm only in hell Brisbane for my edumacation too. (Because moving back to northern NJ is totally going to be a step up.) I was thinking of moving to Tassie when I return to Australia -- does anyone know what the job prospects are like there? I was thinking in the Hobart City Council area, so it's not, like, Queenstown or anything, but I've never been south of Penrith, so I don't really know anything about it. Any other Aussies here that do?

You see Brisbane as hell? Why? I've only been there once, but I don't remember it being all that bad...
And I don't know about the job prospects in Tassie, but one thing I will say: bring warm clothes. Brrrrrrrr! It's lovely in January, but in July, it's pretty chilly.
