On the issue of whether people believed he assaulted Brooke Satchwell or not, I just need to say, HE PLEAD GUILTY!!!!!!!!! He admitted being a violent asshole ! But his sentence was quahsed on appeal, becuase "he was a gentleman.... he showed the utmost respect to women... was unlikley to hurt a woman again.... and had severe depression." Stupid Judge

Matthew is also incredibly lucky that he has had access to treatment as well as a support system and a good attorney. I am still furious that his conviction was quashed, especially because his psychiatrist testified to all the things that butterfly mentioned.
Idiotic legal question...I know that the attack was in Italy, but is there anything (besides the AVO) that the Aussie police can do the bugger?

From what I have read the AVO alleged a pattern of behaviour over a year. It may be that there was an incident in Australia that they could charge him over. Actually looking at the Telegraph now- the evidence filed says "The defendant [Newton] physically, verbally and psychologically abused the applicant [Taylor] in the months of: January in NSW, March in Victoria, April in Victoria and South Australia and June in NSW." So there must be a charge the police can find in there somewhere.
The good thing about the AVO will be ANY breach is a jailable criminal offence.

I know this is old but I'm curious about Russ Hinze. Was he generally loved or hated?

I know this is old but I'm curious about Russ Hinze. Was he generally loved or hated? I don't know that much about him except for the fact that the surname Hinze is synonymous with corruption. A quick google search yielded this little gem[/color]: And the inquiry in question? The Fitzgerald Inquiry into police corruption that led to the jailing of government ministers and the Commissioner of Police. Charming. Let's hope Kristy is made of better stuff.

All I can really recall about Russ Hinze is that he was incredibly fat.... and his daughter is a model who was strangled by a snake in a fashion show and then married a billionaire.
Oh yeah, and he was corrupt!

So I doubt any of us thought Stephanie Rice was a genius, but did anyone think she was this stupid? It's disgusting, and I'm glad people came down hard on her quickly. My sister's 22 year old boyfriend uses 'faggot' as an insult when he's watching football, and I can't stand it. It's so depressing that in 2010 'gay' is still a perjorative.

I really didn't think Stephanie was *that* dumb. I'm glad she's being called out on it.
On to other idiots, Paul Hogan is so loving this tax scandal. It's the most attention he's had in two decades!

He can keep whining to the press about it, but the ATO aren't going to be embarrassed into letting it go. The law is the law, you gotta pay your taxes!
I see a lot of support for him in the local 'newspaper' (and I use the term loosely), unfortunately for them being good for Australian tourism doesn't make you exempt from paying tax.
