As a devoted vegetarian, I hold a special place in my heart for Vegan Lunchbox ( link). It details the lunches a woman packs for her son (whom she is raising vegan). While this woman clearly has waaaaaaaaay too much free time on her hands, and while she's a bit judgmental regarding non-vegans, I love the kooky, creative things she comes up with. She also just published a cookbook with some of her son's favorite recipes, and it is my latest obsession. And, also as a knitter, I am thoroughly dedicated to reading the Yarn Harlot ( link) and See Eunny Knit ( link). The Harlot is hysterical, and Eunny makes things in a week that would take me approximately four years.

I hate that I know who Perez is. Almost as much as I hate him.

For all you parents out there... I really like Girls Gone Child.... she's quite funny. ** I have no affiliation with her or her blog, I just like it.

The Fug Yourself Girls interpretation of Kevin Federline as Uncle Fugly should qualify them for some kind of peace prize or Emmy or somethiing. From skimming, Girls Gone Child is cute. But won't it be weird to grow up and have had your mommy blog about you since you were a kid? (Wow, talk about sentences I couldn't write, much less conceive of 10 years ago. How weird.)

(Wow, talk about sentences I couldn't write, much less conceive of 10 years ago. How weird.) Yes, that's how I feel about all the baby-blogs out there. Hence, why I could never do one myself. However, it's still nice to read about the trial and tribulations of another mom.

I've been reading Mimi in New York since she was profiled in the New York Times and linked on Gawker. I find her to be arrogant, pretentious and shrill. Her politcal sermonizing is abhorrent. And yet, like a car wreck, I can not look away. A little background for those who are lucky enough to be uninitiated: a Cambridge grad, Mimi came to New York to start a journalism career, but because she didn't get the proper visas before her departure from the UK, she was unable to work in the US. Now, she decided to move to the US in a matter of days and was displeased that the red carpet was not rolled out for her upon her arrival at JFK. After gigs waiting tables, she turned to stripping. She was supposed to be the eloquent stripper constantly reminding her readership that she's got a First from Cambridge (didya get that? A FIRST from CAMBRIDGE.) She loved comparing herself to the Mexicans who work in New York's delis and restaurants and bemoaning her status as an "illegal immigrant" and "motherfucking white bitch." Despite how prepostorous it is to compare a white privileged college educated woman to an undocumented worker from a third world country, she would lambast posters who criticisized her and encourage the psycophantic dirty old men who read for her prurient descriptions of the strip clubs in which she worked. In between descriptions of lap dances and diatribes against America in general and New York in specific, she interjects her own half baked and hopelessly naive political pronouncements. After getting a book deal, she quit stripping and the blog became more political and the ratio of detractors to dirty old men increased. Unfortunately, she recently disabled comments, and those were half the fun of the blog. There's more but I'll stop before I give myself an aneurysm. Mimi is second only to Sparklefuck in my loathing of an internet personality.

For every one of these bloggers turned novelists that are very good and interesting---there are about 10 more that are just painfully uninteresting and pretentious. I never understand how some of these folks get plucked from obscurity to book deals. Like that horrible girl who slept her way around Washington (Washingtonionne? or something like that) or that SaveKaryn woman. When meanwhile, Melissa from the Real World has a blog that is so funny and interesting. I think she might be writing a book though so hopefully one day.
Oh, and I truly hate Perez. I used to read him only becasue he usually had the first scoop on celeb gossip. But lately, with the strides TMZ has been making, I just go there first. There's no need to look over Perez and his scribbling over photos and never-ending quest to out every celeb in the universe.
