Thanks to the Timmy, the most sensational BI in the history of all BI's, I now know I'm not the only TCM junkie and old movie star gossip hound on this board... Of all the classic Hollywood's scarlet women, my absolute favorite is the scandal surrounding the lifestyle of B-movie actress Barbara Payton. I can't decide if I find her repulsive or tragic, but she's certainly interesting.

Clark Gable and Loretta Young's out-of-wedlock baby who was raised by single mum Ms. Young to believe she was adopted, that was the first Old Hollywood gossip that made me do this . Gable had no role in the daughter's upbringing and only met her once or twice, never letting on that he was her father. The daughter, Judy Lewis, only found out the truth when she was in her thirties! All of Hollywood's elite seemingly knew the truth, but Gable and Young were so popular and killer box-office that no one would gain by revealing the scandal. Judy Lewis said that her mother made her always wear her hair long and flowing (no ponytails); after the truth came out, she realized it was so her Gable protruding ears weren't noticeable. That's some messed up busineses right there. I'd never heard of Barbara Payton. She sounds like Britney Spears with much less money.

So if Alice Brady was Timmy, was the man who accepted "her" Oscar actually Timmy? OMG that would be so cool.

So what's the real story behind Joan Fontaine and Olivia DeHavilland's fifty year feud? I can't stand my sister sometimes, but not speaking to her for over FIFTY years?

No idea about the feud but just wanted to say that Olivia de Havilland lives on Avenue Bosquet in Paris and you can still see her doing her shopping around there. She's still stunning.

Just coming in here to say that I used to be (and still am, a little) completely obsessed with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz's tumultuous relationship. And I bet you could fill volumes with gossip about those two. Heh.

When I was in High School I was obsessed with Old Hollywood and read every auto/biography I could get my hands on. Ava Gardner's My Story and Esther William's Million Dollar Mermaid are my favorites. So many crazy stories in there, the Howard Hughes ones alone are worth reading. Especially how he prevented Ava and her sister from flying to Cuba. The way she described her wedding night with Mickey Rooney is hilarious. Rita Hayworth's was definitely the most sad, I had no idea she dated Hughes, and had an abortion with his child.
Olivia de Havilland is the awesome old broad, on a documentary about Errol Flynn (her 8-time costar) she talked about how they were having an affair, but Flynn wouldn't leave his wife. While shooting Robin Hood Olivia decided to mess with him and kept messing up their kissing scene. To quote her, "He had a little trouble with his tights." ;D
Judy Lewis did grow up knowing that Clark Gable was her father, but her mother never confirmed it until Judy was in her thirties. On Clark Gable's biography Judy talked about how she invited Gable and his wife to her wedding, but they didn't come. She told her fiance that she didn't think she could marry him because she didn't know she was. He said to her, "I know who you are, you're Clark Gable's daughter." She said that was the first time she had ever heard anyone say it out loud.
