Lizzie Borden took an ax Gave her mother 40 whacks When she saw what she had done She gave her father 41
Charming little rhyme, isn't it?

The Borden case illustrates the need for proper diction, more than anything. See, when Lizzie went to her dad to get a quarter for some candy, he said, "Go aks your mother" and things went downhill from there. (Sorry. Old Duke, old joke.)Bwah hah hah! My husband's older brother used to turn off all the lights and chase him around the house screaming some song "lizzie borden had an ax, gave her father 40 whacks" or something like that. Scarred my husband for life. That's all I've got. Lizzie Borden had an ax, she gave her father 40 whacks. when she saw what she had done she gave her mother 41. And it's so depressing that I can remember this with such ease...*sigh* topic: Ed Gein, the inspiration (?) for Psycho. He lived on a farm in central Wisconsin; back in the 1980s I set up a bike trip across Wisconsin for myself and two friends. I just HAD to plot the route so that we'd go past the remains of the farm. This of course led to the most awful jokes, the most memorable being about Geins-burgers... My closest true crime story - one night ten years ago I went to pick my daughter up from work at one of the local Subway's. She was closing up for the night with the asst. manager, whose behavior was rather odd. I noticed he had a habit of ducking when he walked in and out of the main room; as it turns it, it was to avoid being seen on the security camera. Three nights later, my daughter went to another Subway to fill in for a co-worker, and found the co-worker beaten within an inch of her life. It was the asst. manager, and my daughter was the only person who knew where he lived (he had given a false address on his employment papers). She led police to his apartment (actually, a seedy motel) where they picked him up. He got 96 years. ETA: Holy Merde!

And Buffalo Bill. He had a suit made out of skin, people! And lampshades. Wikipedia reminded me of all that he had: What the hell. I have this book and dude's the stuff that nightmares are made out of.

I have this book and dude's the stuff that nightmares are made out of. Oh my oh my oh my - I looked up the Wiki entry on Gein, to find the following: "On July 26, 1984, Ed Gein died of respiratory and heart failure in Goodland Hall at the Mendota Mental Health Institute." Goodland Hall was named after my great-grandfather's brother, who was a governor of Wisconsin and rather progressive on the issues of mental health; I believe he had a developmentally disabled daughter. Now I am thoroughly creeped out for the night.

Yikes, HarpofLorien! That was a close call for your daughter, don't you think?
As for the writing of pen-pal letters to prisoners, well, I've seen the TV shows about the prison wives. That wife of Richard Ramirez is just pathetic. And those guys sitting in pokey have all the time in the world to think up their game plans.

Fer sure...When the attack happened we both looked back on the night three days earlier, and thought had I not shown up when I did she likely would have been his target, given his odd behavior. She was more than happy to help the police catch this guy,

Oh, have you been through a lot in your hammer-swinging life? I'm just not seeing any signs of remorse, redemption, reflexion, or growing maturity here.
They think that Gein mostly robbed graves to get corpses, rather than murdering.

I went to a bar in Wisconsin once where they had an old "guest book" (they used to have patrons sign it) proudly on display. The reason? Ed Gein had signed in once. Ick, ick, ick.
Uh huh. Riiiight. *Shudder*

I looked him up on the Colorado prison database. He's in for burglary and theft (with a side of escape), but 39 years old? Uh-uh, homeboy was born in 1951. Yeah, just stupid for sure.
