I had that book. I think it may have been called "The Great Lakeside High Love Experiment". In the movie, everything wrapped up nice and sweet within the one hour allotted time. In the book, however, the popular girl is nearly killed in a car accident, and she loses her boyfriend to the girl she was trying to make popular. I loved that book, but it was so long ago. I just have faint memories. Like the nerdy girl (that eventually became super-popular) loved to run. Alot.

Every time I come across used book sales and things I always try to track down two books from my teenage years. Does anyone know a good forum or a good place to ask avid romance readers if they know these two books' authors and titles? All I can do is give the plot.

Smart Bitches, Trashy Books has a feature called "Help a Bitch Out" where they post letters they've received from readers about long-lost books, the title of which are unknown. I'd say shoot them an email and maybe they'll post it and see if anybody can come up with anything. AbeBooks also has a section under Community called "BookSleuth" where you might be able to get some help finding them.

About a year or so ago I read a book that I absolutely hated. At work we were talking about books that disappointed us and I was trying to describe this book and couldn't remember the author's name or the book's title. One woman was really curious about it but I just couldn't come up with the name.
Okay, part of it takes place in the present and it's very violent, kind of pornishly violent in fact. There are gangsters. One guy is obsessively doing research on Dante Alligheiri's writing of The Divine Comedy because he's convinced there was some sort of mystery about the true authorship.
The other parts take place in Dante's time and it follows him through the years as he struggles to finish The Divine Comedy, and sure enough, someone you wouldn't expect contributed to the work.
Oh, and the author's picture on the back is nightmare inducing. He looks insane. I think it said he also wrote for magazines.
Anyone have a clue? I know my description's extremely vague...
