Oh, wow, nostalgia! I had Behind the Attic Wall when I was a kid. It made me sad that the protagonist was so misunderstood and lonely.
I seem to recall somebody doing a "What is this book?" post about it years ago at FT, too.

Ok, if someone can help me out with these two books I would love you forever...
The first one was a children's/YA book about a girl named Abby who goes away to camp. She becomes friends with this other little feisty girl (Regina? Georgina?) and they team up against the bullies in camp - I think there's a powder fight??. Abby's best friend from home was supposed to go too but broke her leg at the last minute, and Abby had to go alone. There are some illustrations throughout the book.
The other one, I thought, was called The Doll. It was my mom's and passed down to me when I was about 12. There was a creepy picture of a doll on the cover. I have looked it up everywhere and can't find any book that fits the title and description. It was a horror story about twins who shared a doll who possessed evil powers. One of the twins (I think the "bad" one) ends up in the bottom of a well and is eaten by rats. Gross, I know, but it was a good story.

Thanks to the people who helped out with "Behind the Attic Wall"--have passed it along to my friend's brother.
deelight, is the first book by Ellen Conford? Sounds vaguely familiar, and I think she wrote a book about overnight camp. No idea about the second one--it's weird enough that I know I'd remember if I'd read it!

Ellen Conford's book is called Hail Hail Camp Timberwood, but I can't remember enough about the plotline to tell if it's the right one, deelight.
I'm looking for a children's book that would have been published sometime around 1978-79, transposing the story of Noah's Ark to a contemporary setting, and also telling the legend of the lost unicorn. There seem to be a lot of scifi/fantasy books with that plot but this would have been specifically aimed at young adults or children. Any ideas?

Could it be Yours Till Niagra Falls, Abby? I loved that book!

ETA: Of course its not available at Amazon. I'll have to do some searching. But at least now I know what I'm searching for:)

Wow. I can't believe someone brought up Hail Hail Camp Timberwood. I now have the camp song stuck in my head and am amazed I remember after almost 30 years! And I remember Yours Till Niagra Falls as well.
I am almost tempted to go to the library and reread these gems. There are some childrens books I do reread from time to time, Peter Pan being my fave but that is my fave book of all time anyway so maybe it doesn't count. But The Girl Who Owned A City and Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree are two that I must read every few years and I always love them.

The Noah's Ark books sounds a little like the Madeline L'Engle book, Many Waters--though it's not a contemporary setting, rather contemporary kids who go back in time.

I swear by it. If something is not there just give it a week and check again. And the prices really are the best, just make sure you have a minimal grasp of what the different book conditions are. There is a glossary at the bottom of the page. I couldn't find this board's guides for what is or isn't spam but I am in no way affiliated with Bookfinder, I just use it a lot.
