Ha, yeah, her roommate was pyscho and tore up her room. I think I remember that her roommate had some stupid backstory about why she was a bitch and I think the school admin. just kicked her butt out.

I never read the books when Mallory was at boarding school. Did they just write her out of the series, or did they do books about her life at the boarding school?
Also, what the hell kind of boarding school would accept Mallory Pike? The Future Losers Of America Institute?

Maybe this should be in the True Confessions thread, but...I didn't mind Mallory that much, actually. I felt bad for her when Kristy and Claudia were being all mean to her when she first wanted to join the club. I identified with her wanted to get her ears pierced really badly (my super strict parents told me I'd have to wait till I was 18), and of course I had braces and glasses, just like her, along with the unmanageable hair. Not that I thought she was cool or anything, she definitely wasn't my favorite BSCer, I guess I felt like I could kind of identify with her, well, nerdy/ugly duckling status.

stargirl, don't worry, I liked Mallory a lot when I was reading these books. It didn't really occur to me how miserable her life was. It's only now, in hindsight, that I can see what a trainwreck she was and how the writers piled all the crap on her until it was verging on parody.
I guess I didn't notice how nerdy Mal was because I was too busy hating a bunch of the other BSC members, Dawn in particular, and also Jessi and Kristy. What was up with Kristy constantly glaring at the other girls for being two minutes late to a meeting? One of them could have been hit by a car on the way to a meeting and Kristy still would have said, "Excuses, excuses! You're LATE, you know!"

Poor Mallory. All of the other BSCers had to be cool and perfect so Mallory had to be the loser. Personally, I've always liked Stacey the best but I'm most like Mary Anne, shy, and sensitive. I like to think I'm a little less lame and when I cut my hair my friends still spoke to me. I always hated Dawn the most. Dawn was such as bitch. Hee I found this BSC clip on youtube

Yeah, add me to the list of people who's not laughing at Mallory herself, just the endless crap the writers piled on her. Such as spending herself into debt at the makeup counter in California. I'm surprised she didn't finish out the series getting eaten by wolverines.
She probably was my least favorite BSC-er, although Kristy and her fascist tendencies came in a close second. I always liked Claudia.

Jessi was always my least favorite, at least Mallory had some storylines that I could laugh at. I hated all the ballet bits and how Jessi was the most!talented!BLACK!Ballerina!EVER! And did you guys happen to catch the fact that she is a fantastic black ballerina? It was like the ghostwriters were afraid we'd forget these facts if they didn't mention it twenty times in each chapter of her books. Second to Jessi I disliked Kristy the most because I never cared about sports and didn't understand the fascination with them. Claudia and Stacey were my favorites, until they got into the Friends Forever series and then Stacey turned into a raging bitch because of the whole boyfriend war.

Sadly, I think I related to Mallory most. Especially when she spent all the money at the cosmetics counter in California and dyed her hair blonde-- that is something I would have done as a mousy, myopic preteen desperate to unveil a "new me."
Oh, how I hated Stacey's ability to "fill out the top part" of a bikini, Claudia's "exotic beauty," Kristy's athleticism, Dawn's perfect ass-length hair, and the shy femininity that enabled Mary Anne to snag a hot Southern dude without even putting out.
I like to think that by the age of 16, Mallory was a cool alterna-chick with blue streaks in her hair, emo glasses and (now-ironic) heart-patterned tights. The series didn't get that far, did it?

No, they were pretty much thirteen for the entire series (except for, like, the first 10 books, when they were twelve).

You've pretty much summed up my feelings, though rather than hating the other BSCers, I just thought they were pretty cool and wished I could be like that. Anyway, I figure Mallory couldn't have been that bad looking, she did get a boyfriend at some point, didn't she? In sixth grade, no less.
