I think I stopped reading around book 100 too. I was soooo excited to get the bracelet that came with it (which broke), and then... I don't know. I hated the new look the books had. And then I got to middle school and realized that the books were extremely uncool and there was no reason to make myself look even nerdier.
I read the California Diaries for a while, but the drinking and making out and stuff was too much for me. I was a goody two-shoes and I didn't like reading about older kids. My sister kept reading them for a while (she's four years younger than me), so I would mooch them off of her sometimes when she got them out of the library. But I think the last one I read was either where Mallory went to private school, or where someone's house burned down. And yeah, I didn't like that Claudia went back to 7th grade, either.
Oh... I guess "The Fire at Mary-Anne's House" was the last one (I just checked a list). I may have read it, then, but I borrowed it from my sister's library pile, in that case. I didn't read much after 100, though.
I do remember thinking all the changes sucked, though. It's the BSC! Things aren't supposed to HAPPEN!
Does anyone remember that hardcover book with the letters and postcards in it? I BEGGED my mother for it, and she refused for the longest time. I think eventually I ended up saving my allowance. And it was awesome. I also had the Complete Guide to the BSC and the BSC Guide to Baby-Sitting.
What was the deal with the Friends Forever books? Did they take place after the series? I have a vague memory of them, but I don't think I ever read them.
I just realized that when I think of the BSC's California, I imagine it as being on the east coast... Because I live on the west coast of the continent, and since I identified with the BSC I imagined them being on this side of the country in my mind... I guess? Plus I had no idea where Connecticut was. I think I knew where New York was. Wow, that's weird.
