They have none of the Discworld series at our local library. WTF?? But I ordered the 1st one from the system so it should show up this week. I picked up a couple of different books of his the library did have that I thought she might like. Thanks chonies.

I'm actually looking for a book recommendation. Has anyone read a novel set in West Berlin during the Cold War? I'm interested in the subject but not finding any adult novels (lots of kid ones, oddly enough).

Kind of old, but I'm willing to bet Helen MacInnes has one or two. She definitely set a lot of her books during the Cold War and usually in Europe. I saw somewhere that some of her books are being reprinted.

Who's a fan of Romance Novels? Any recommendations as a gift for someone who likes that genre? And for that matter, any recommendations on books about the Tudors and Henry VIII and that period?

Jean Plaidy wrote many books set during the Tudor era, as well as many other English historical eras. I've never read her, so can't give a review of her work.

The Outlander series gets a lot of traction as literary romance. Most romance readers have their favorite authors or subsets--do you happen to have a clue on any of those? If you're not sure, something like an Amazon gift card might be perfect. Harlequin-style romance titles are pretty cheap on Kindle (like, 99¢-$3.99), so a gift card in a fairly modest amount would go a long way.

Unrelated, but I started "Tell the Wolves I'm Home" by Carol Rifka Brunt last night and am loving it so much. It's almost a YA book ( the main character is 14.) It's got the feeling of the 80s, when AIDS was so virulent and little understood.

I love romance novels, forever1267, but I stay away from the Harlequin books, as they tend to lack a good plot and character development. Some authors that I enjoy are Mary Balogh (Regency Historical--great characters), Elizabeth Hoyt (Regency Historical--great sex), Linda Howard (Modern--good plots and great sex), Nora Roberts (Modern--decent plots and characters--late 90's and early 00's are better), Karen Marie Moning (Modern/Historical w/time travel elements--hot sex). Here's a link to Amazon's best selling romance novels.
