Thanks BagofBones, but that's not it. Annnnnyway.... Did anyone ever read the Trixie Belden mysteries? Oh, I was so addicted to those things when I was about ten or so. Trixie and her gang were like a low rent version of Nancy Drew, and oh the HIJINX that Trixie got up to, lol! As my 9 year old daughter gets more and more into reading, I am finding myself rereading old favorites: The Little House books, Trixie Belden, The Dollhouse Murders(and everything else by that author...what the heck was her name?), Judy Blume, etc. I am 31 years old and last summer I reread "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret". ;D

Oh, Trixie Belden. I had the whole series. I loved them! I lent one to my friend's daughter and she told me she thought it was boring. I was crushed.

I was sure that I'd read Trixie Beldon - but I can't remember a single thing about them apart from the name, so I don't think I can have as I do remember books. Who wrote them?
And does anyone remember the series of books promoted by (or co-authored by, I'm not sure) Alfred Hitchcock, featuring three friends who had adventures similar to the Hardy Boys? The series was called The Three Investigators, and they weren't so squeaky clean as the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew. I really liked those books!

Sure, I remember those. Or at least, the one book in the series that was still to be found in the library when I was a kid (the 80's). One of the boys was called Jupiter, I think; he lived with his aunt and uncle. He and his 2 friend had some sort of secret hideout in his uncle's junkyard, which I thought was just the coolest thing ever.

I forgot about him being called Jupiter! Wasn't he a former child actor too or something? And yeah, I remember the hideout - it had multiple exits as well, I think.
I really think I need to find some of these books and re-read them.

I just reread "Summer of the Swans" by Betsy Byars. Forgot how good it is. She's not an author really in "vogue" but she's a prolific and realistic writer. Her books tend to be short, so they're good for reluctant readers.

Kathryn Kenny wrote the original books (well, that's the name -- she may well have been "author by committee" like with the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew mysteries). I've also found some library records that have the name Julie Campbell listed as the author.

Thanks, Ripley. I'll have to check a couple out and see if they ring any bells.

I used to live for Trixie Belden and the Bobwhites of the Glen. I used to wish I was her best friend Honey and could live in the mansion and ride horses all the time and flirt with her 2 brothers. I saved the whole set of books to read with my kids and they think they are BORING.
Right now they are reading Cornelius Funke's Dragon Slayer or Rider or something. They love her books and say they are better than Harry Potter. The first one was Ink Heart and then the second was Thief Lord.
Oh, I also wanted to tell you one of our neighbours gave me a really pretty little buckskin filly about 7 years ago and I named her Trixie. I had to bottle feed her as her mom had died and now she is a beautiful fully grown registered 1/4 horse. Whenever I was bottle feeding her I would think about the Trixie Belden books as I was usually half asleep and needed something to keep my mind going.

I'm seeing Trixie Belden books these days in the library/bookstore. I don't think they're the original ones; I think they're sort of a "modern remake" of the series, much like they did with Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys/Bobbsey Twins when I was a kid.
