I always hated how wussy Marigold's mom was, stand up for your kid once in a while, you whiny baby. I hated the end of the book too when it is implied that Marigold will get together with that annoying boy friend of her's, I hated that kid. I have a lot of hate, I guess. I guess the reason why I don't like the story girl books is because I prefer LM's books about young women as opposed to children. Also in the other books, the narrator takes the fears of the children seriously, for example when Emily believes she was poisoned, I believe LM writes the scene, which could be funny, as serious as Emily is very frightened. But in the story girl books, when the kids get freaked out about something silly, there is this mocking, weren't we dumb tone that bugs. Its funny that LM never implied that Bev and Story Girl would get together. It violates her usual childhood friends who become more plot line.

I love that Ilse stands up to Emily and tells her off when she needs it. Anne had nobody in her life who'd do that! I liked Magic for Marigold a lot when I was a teenager but not so much now. Still, I think it has two of LMM's funniest chapters: 1) when the whole clan gets together to choose the baby's name and can't agree; and 2) the chapter when Grandmother and Mother are out and unexpected company shows up, when, horror of horrors, there is no cake in the house. Also, I lovelovelove the part where Old Grandmother is talking to Marigold the night that she dies, and tells her "Learn to be just, Marigold. The hardest thing in the world is to be just. I never was just. It was so much easier to be generous." It's just one of my favorite book quotes.

I'm about to channel my mom telling the dogs not to touch something. "Leave it!"

Because I wasn't about to be the only one bearing the burden of knowing that monstrosity existed.

*wishes Dwanollah were here so there could be massive chocolate consumption, preferably at Brewsters with other LM Montgomery fans*
