I haven't quite thrown it away, just set it aside for a long long time, but I just cannot get into The Accidental Tourist. I keep trying, and I keep putting it aside after struggling through a few chapters. I think she focuses on a lot of minutiae, and maybe that's what's bothering and boring me.

Madam Bovary. It wasn't even worthy enough to use for kindling.

The Fountainhead by Ayn bloody Rand. Worthless capitalist claptrap, which is only good for a doorstop.

Margo, I don't always agree with your posts, but I love you for that. Heh.
Why do I keep torturing myself with Don DeLillo's "Underworld"? Why? I hate that book, after the baseball stadium part, oh so very much.

I'd like to add "Night Life" by Elizabeth Guest. I read a review that made it sound intriguing but it turned out to be terrible. Flowery writing, the hero is immortal although how he accomplishes this is never explained, a PhD heroine whose career is never about after she meets the hero, etc. I'm a big reader and have been disappointed in books before, but I haven't been this geniunely angry in quite some time.

I once read this horrible book about Lizzy Borden, based on her true story with some really sick ficticious twists in it. I never read it again after that first time, and I came across it the other day and literally threw it in the trash. I didn't even want it in my home - its just has all this disgusting crap about Lizzy's supposed split personalities and her imaginary lesbian-lover who is really just a figment of her imagination.

I totally read that book, deelight. Yes, all that stuff about her multiple personalities and the sex rings a bell. It was pretty bad, but at least I'd take it out from the library.
I just tried to read a book by Jane Green ("Babyville") and have no idea why her books seem to be sooo popular.

Jane Green is terrible. Jemima J was so bad that I refuse to give it away, like I usually do with books I don't like. I just won't let myself be even tangentially responsible for someone reading that pile of garbage. So I guess it doesn't really belong in this thread, because I haven't thrown it away, but someone should have trashed it back in the manuscript stage.
I just recently tried to read Little Children and hated it. What the hell was the point of all that supposed to be?

Okay, after one last, valiant attempt to finish Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, I've finally thrown in the towel. I just...didn't like it. It never seemed to pick up. So it's a-goin' to the Free Box on Monday.
