I think I was the only one in my class that hated it, but Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried needs to burn in hell. I hated the whole "did this really happen?" thing that's always in the back of your head because he can't express his feelings about the war without making shit up. I felt it was emotionally manipulative for the sake of being emotionally manipulative, to the point where it brings his credibility as an author in to question.

I threw my Frugal Gourmet cookbooks in the garbage can after reading the related legal documents on the Smoking Gun, but I realize this thread's title is not meant to be taken so literally.

So I take it the Baby Water Buffalo scene didn't move you, either?

Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin. I hated the main characters. I hated the best friend. I couldn't get through half of it before flipping to the end to see what happened. Wrong thing to do because it just pissed me off all over again.

OMG, Sardonic, I forgot about that episode of South Park. That quote is hysteria-inducing.

OMG, Sardonic, I forgot about that episode of South Park. That quote is hysteria-inducing. There is a book that I just read called Librarian's Night Before Christmas which had this hilarious stanza: "For the book budget cutters, Old Claus had no plan Even if they could read, they'd just read Ayn Rand." I laughed until I cried.

And then cried some more, no doubt. That's really funny (if depressing).

Something by Ann Rice - I believe The Witching Hour. Just bored the hell out of me.
Then there was Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood which everyone seems to love except me. In all fairness, I have to say that I attempted reading it immediately after reading Trinity by Leon Uris . The Yaya thing seemed so trite and silly after that powerhouse epic.
