Wing writes for the National Post?

Does anyone here still think success is entirely talent based? Anyone?

She writes a few small columns in the entertainment section. She's still doing "Hey! It's That Guy!" features for the National Post. Pretty much just what she did/does on FT.

Anybody else remember how she would scold anybody who put down "Futurama", just because she liked it? Well, now that I'm here I would like to say, "Futurama" sucked. A lot.

It does seem completely random that she writes for the NP, which I read on a semi-regular basis. I'll stop if I start to experience any worrying symptoms; thinking Stephen Harper is hot etc.

The DHAK people have managed to wring some very low-level of work/fame out of their empire, but I will be very surprised if any of the main players make it any bigger. They just don't have the talent.

Oh, and SpinsterLiz? I did a little dance when I read your post - Futurama DID suck! Yay!

OK, bear w/ me, people. I'm not completely clueless, but I guess I'm out of the loop. Is "Tara Ariano" her real name, or is Wing Chung her name? Who is Sars? I don't visit the other sites that you all mention a lot, and I only went to FT strictly for the boards. So, except for the times when she "warned" me, I have no idea who Wing is.

Tara Ariano is Wing Chun's real name. Sarah Bunting is Sars' real name. Wing/Tara and Sars/Sarah founded Television Without Pity along with Wing's husband, Glark (known as David Cole in real life).

Fametracker was mostly Wing's baby, I think. This is an article that has a bit of info on the origins of TWoP and who is who.

Then who was the Man From Funkle? I always thought his FT articles were easily funnier than Wing's, Sars' and Glark's.

Btw, Wing has a BA and MA in English?? Colour me surprised!

And honestly, I can give you one good reason not to hit FT anymore: no more freaking Fame Audits. Someone's lost their nerve once they got on the Ain't-It-Cool-Train of Fame-Related BJs.

Okay, so I only have the BS in English Lit right now...still, if she's indicative of what to expect from people who get a Masters in Lit, then I may have to seriously consider what the fuck I'm doing.

Funny to think of the insular world of TPTB at FT/TWOP as a sort of academic hierarchy, with all the cults of personality,infighting, resentments, cliques, et al that you will sadly find in those environments. I know I'm exaggerating, but. . .

No kidding! I had have my experiences with unfortunate academia, from a 'writing about literature' course headed by some chump who made us read stuff that nobody could understand (literary theory, anybody?) right down to a Women's Lit professor who missed half the class and earned the resentment of a mixed gender class by telling the men to shut the hell up 3/4ths of the time. Right now I'm thinking about heading for my Masters but honestly? Sometimes academia can be SCARY.

And honestly, while I like showing my snark, I don't want it to affect me to such a point where I'm bitching at people who may write better than me. And honestly? When you get into the Hollywood influence (or hell, even the literary influence!) then your ego starts to expand like mad and..well, look at the title of this thread and the reason we're all here. Nuff said.
